I would say 90% of that cost is due to the massive increase in administrative positions and benefits

Same thing in healthcare. Both have heavy government involvement.

It takes a lot of money to maintain the status quo.

I can't wait for Global Warming to be eradicated so we can fix things like this.

It has more to do with the integration of schools and the concept of separate and equal not being equal. We dumbed the system down and it has been an expensive race to the bottom ever since. It all started about 1965. Are the minorities any better off today? Maybe, but the majority sure aren’t. Sounds a lot like socialism. It started a long time ago and we best head it off now before it’s too late.

True. And it's not just adm at the school site level. Not Principal, Asst Principal. It's the district central offices.

Have you ever been to one of those places? Hundreds of people with a title but no actual job.

Q: 'What do you do here?
A: 'I'm the assistant director for research for secondary development to improve diversity.'
Q: 'No, what do you actually do?'
A: 'I hang out here in the break arena.'

I know a girl who got a MA at Harvard solely so she could help form the curriculum for a school district. I had no idea that that was a thing. What blew my mind even more is that she got a gig starting at like 70k plus benefits in a cheap area.

I wonder how many people would vote for property tax increases or an extra half percent in sales tax if they knew that most of that money was going to some egghead that has no accountability to them.

The US probably gets less bang for the buck than any other advanced society.

I'm sure we can do so much better with healthcare though

I agree with the sentiment, but since scores are usually 1-100, it's going to be hard for them to increase on the same percentage basis as total costs.

The other issue is in 70s through the 80s you weren’t buying tons of computers and paying all the staff to maintain them.

Everyone knows throwing more money at education won't fix it.

The problem isn't about money.

This chart pretty well sums up our government’s intervention in anything it touches. Costs go up, results do down or stay the same. With the wealth of our country there is no excuse in this type performance. It’s been happening since the ‘60’s. Politically a decision was made that “we have to bring up the poor and underprivileged”. I think all can all agree with this noble goal.

Problem is instead of helping the poor and underprivileged we chose to listen to the loudest, lowest common denominator, integrated all the schools, closed neighborhood schools and bussed kids all around the school districts. We disrupted not just the more affluent neighborhoods but the poor neighborhoods as well. We created one big lousy system where at least we had one good one and one poor one in the past. It destroyed neighborhoods, created white flight and turned cities from Detroit to Baton Rouge into a mess. These poorly thought out plans not only created a divide between have and have nots but killed many cities tax bases. So we now raise, raise, raise taxes chasing the lowest common denominator.

We are now making the same mistakes today with our immigration policy or lack of. The country simply can’t afford to support all of these needy, expensive people. America should be a destination country where the best are able to get in and we have to be mindful of this for future generations. This creeping socialism which has been going on with our schools since the ‘60’s is a trend we must address. I pray that the majority of people in this country will come to realize that.
