You are being obtuse. It's not just a fictional retelling of story. It's rewriting a historical and cultural icon simply to remove white people.

How about casting the greatest warrior of the era as a skinny 5'2" 100# girl who any average male could snap like a twig?

It's absolutely horrible casting no matter how much you want to defend it.

It will sell, however, it will vastly underperform and be considered a loser if the casting that we are seeing comes to fruition.

The negative press is just beginning, and i think we've seen many times before, the media and the critics can't gaslight this movie into a financial success.

No, we're actually talking about the new Christopher Nolan film, The Odyssey.

Hope this helps.

It depends Power... on whether it is any good.

It's Nolan. It will probably be good. I'm definitely going to watch it in the theaters because I don't have a nuclear melt down over a black person playing someone that you would expect to be white.

I don't think I've ever seen a poster argue with himself in the same post

I'm looking forward to the fictional retelling of 12 Years a Slave with an all white cast.

There it is. The non-sequitor nobody is arguing. You do you, big guy. Clearly that is the gripe everyone has with this movie...

We went from Brad to Elliot

There was a gigantic backlash at the time that Brad was too much of a pretty boy to be Achilles, and the movie wasn’t particularly well received.

It’s really remarkable to see the modern version of the previously modern version just leaned in further.

That is too swarthy.

How the word is taken today =/= how it used to be taken.

Northern Europeans called Italians and Spanish "swarthy".

This one word is why so many believe sub-saharans were everywhere and did everything.

Be specific. Break even is about $650m, are you saying it won’t hit that figure?

Wanna do a ban bet? You’re already 0-1 against me on these, here’s your chance.

Outrage must be applied evenly. If there is outrage over whiter than they should have been people playing the roles of ancient Egyptians(who were actually clasified as western Europeans as we know from DNA) then there should be outrage over a black person playing the role of a Greek.

To not apply this evenly is hypocrisy.

What? Pitt had already done Fight Club and Snatch several years before Troy came out. He had already broken out of his pretty boy, Legends of the Falls/Meet Joe Black persona by then.

Matt Walsh made a video about this .... here is a comparison SS of the intro to The Odessey between popular translators I captured and found interesting.... (supporting what you and Walsh describe).
