Oh I bet this comment gets some fun responses.

I liked it better when our police didn't look like they were ready to storm the beaches in Normandy.

Hopefully he won't let Bubba's douchey arse in the gates.

Tell me specifically where I am wrong.
Millitary weapons are correctly called assault rifles. An AR15 is not a military rifle and is not an assault rifle.
Genius.

You seem really intelligent about tactics/firearms. Can you explain this to me in greater detail?
Hands on foregrip and pistol grip, trigger finger extended along the receiver above the trigger. Looked like he was patrolling in Iraq or somewhere.

What's your authority for this?
ETA The bold, not the other. Assault rifle is indeed an incorrect moniker.

Name one military in the world that uses the AR15.

A rifle that is a derivative of the rifle originally designed by Eugene Stoner and HAS select fire capability is defined as an “assault rifle”.
These are generally not available to non-LEO civilians.
A similar rifle that does not have select fire capability is not technically defined as an “assault rifle”.
These are generally available to own.
That’s all the OP is saying.

I was only going with the AR part of AR-15 does not stand for assault rifle.
*Essentially agreeing with OP on that.

A.
B.
We’ve lost something important in the transition from A to B.

I bet if it was one of those over the top/hyper-2nd A guys walking around with the rifle and a hidden body cam in an effort to embarrass the police on YouTube , you’d be ok with it.
Furthermore, nothing would make me feel better than a show of force at the Masters. Lotta thuggage in Augusta, not to mention the Aloha Snackbar boys’ penchant for large scale events like the Boston Marathon.

Please show me (link) in any military field manual where an M4 is designated as an assault rifle.
It isnt.
Assault is an action not a firearm. Stop thinking because you read an article on Vox, The Atlantic or Salon that you understand the terminology. You clearly do not.

I had one of those before I lost it in the ocean

I think you are the one that doesn’t understand the subject as well as he thinks.
The term assault rifle (in a non political context. I agree that lefty politicians use it purposefully to cloud the issue now) dates to at least WW2 with the German STG44, the German name for which literally translates as “assault rifle 44”.
The point of knowledgeable pro-gun people is that the left has, knowingly or not, misappropriated the term “assault rifle”, which has confused the general public about the actual capabilities of the rifles that civilians are generally allowed to own. NOT that there’s no such thing as an assault rifle.
