modern day Marie Antoinette. You should eat cake

Time for some history trivia. Marie never said 'let them eat cake.' She said 'Let them eat white bread' and there was a translation error over the years.
In those days only rich people ate white bread (refined). The poor ate brown bread (whole wheat). Ironically, today the rich eat brown because it's healthier and the poor eat white.

It was 'brioche.' French brioche is indeed actually a bit cakier than typical American white bread.

The French Revolution was an accelerating leftist bloodbath.

And it was done in timeless leftist style. Anybody who had ever had any connection with anybody who had been declared an enemy of the revolution was marked for a sham trial and possible execution.

The bit of trivia you’re actually looking for is most likely she never said it at all.

It's coming. Just remains to be seen which side triumphs and does the head chopping.

By most descriptions she seemed like a great lady. I'm sure she came across as ostentatious but so is Meghan Markle and nobody wants to chop her head off.

This is on point. Another of history's examples of what happens when the bloodlust kicks in.

Burke, who is often spoken of "reverently" on here, in his Reflections on the Revolution in France gave us a clinic in cautious prudence when he stressed to his more naive countrymen who were members of Britain's Constitution Society and the Revolution Society about being enthusiastic, supportive, and invested in what was going on in France at the time.

Could he have been more right.

The Reign of Terror hadn't begun yet.

The only bright light from that time of misery was the little lady with one of history's coolest names: Charlotte Corday - who rid the world of a real piece of scum - Marat - but paid with her life.

The two fanatics Robespierre and his associate Saint-Just really got into the bloodletting and sent so many innocents to that grisly end.

History records that when the revolution turned with the Thermidorian Reaction and it was time for Robespierre and Saint-Just to walk up those steps to the blade, that Saint-Just cried like a baby.
