I think he said this today. So it's 4,060 dollars per troy ounce. The US is sitting on 261.5 million troy ounces of gold, or 8,133 metric tons.

Right. The commie was referring to when FDR made Americans turn in their gold coins in exchange for paper money. There is some debate on that being a legit theft of gold. But it obviously is not where the US got all their gold from. They make a few other arguments too, but they're all bogus. Like, "the US stole their gold from the NAZIs" and while it's true that we recovered a lot of looted gold after WW2, it was tracked and given back to the countries it came from, returned to the people the NAZIs had stolen it from even.

Lend Lease in WW2. We got a lot of gold from the UK. British citizens donated wedding rings and jewelry to their government so they could buy US weapons to fight Hitler.
