It isn’t tribalism and you are correct Republicans like spending money just as much as Democrats. The idiotic part is the people who justify massive spending while ignoring the impact of inflation and high interest rates on the average person. We are screwed as a nation unfortunately and no one seems to be willing to make the cuts necessary

DOGE was pointless now but these people don’t care.

The most "responsible" plan anyone can come up with still adds trillions to our debt, just at a slightly slower rate. That's the hard truth. Even with the most disruptive leader in modern history, this is where we landed.
Interest rates are creeping up again. After Moody's downgrade, mortgage rates topped 7%, and 30-year Treasuries crossed 5%. In 2023, we collected just under $2.2 trillion in federal income taxes. At 5%, debt interest alone eats up 80% of that. What's left barely covers anything. And the rest of our revenue sources? Mostly payroll taxes, locked up in programs we can't touch.

We are out of money.
We are out of time.
And still, we act like it's not a problem.
I'm not saying this to sound hopeless. But we have to face the truth: this is happening because of a culture of corruption.

Did you see the public reaction to spending cuts? (Note: I’m all for it.)
The typical American voter says they want spending cuts until they become actual cuts. Then they’re all: “Uhhhhhhh. Uuuuummmm. I didn’t think it would mean that program would be cut.”

That’s because as much as they claimed the liberals have hive thinking, they do exactly the same thing.
The reality is that some of us are in the middle and actually care about the policy itself while most morons on either side care more about their guy “winning” or “showing them!”
It’s why this country is headed down the shitter just the same under Trump and it was under Biden. His policies don’t fix the problems.
Massive deficit? Way too much spending? Cut taxes and raise spending on things like military while cutting other things.
He takes money from one entitlement group or groups and gives it to another (Military Industrial Complex).
They don’t care about getting spending under control at all. They simply care about making sure spending fills the right pockets.
Then, the average person gets shafted as usual. But hey, their guy is “winning” Charlie Sheen style, so facts and policies don’t matter.

This is why our allegiance should be to Jesus Christ and not to fallible, sinful humans. It makes it so much easier to be skeptical of and condemn the actions of politicians rather than feeling like we should excuse them because they are on our team.

Yep. There were many "spiking the football" over DOGE. Now when midterms roll around and the the deficit is still $2 trillion many will be saying WTF.

Correct and even many on here who support Trump would be against cuts to the military and social security which are the biggest contributors to our debt
Posted on 5/22/25 at 8:30 am to sidewalkside
Trumpicans can't do basic math.
They only care that their "bro" got a win.

Correct.
Cuts would be the right thing to do but these leaders would be fired if they did that.
We have a system that punishes those who do the right thing.
That is a broken system.

Question, as I haven't looked. Is this budget balanced/deficit neutral?
4 trillion increase in the federal debt limit according to another thread. I don’t know if that is true but if it is that tells you all you need to know.

You weren’t suspended for advocating for spending cuts. Stop being a drama queen.

We are paying these people to frick us. Johnson wants congress to be able to trade and frick the markets as well.
It's a big party and we ain't invited.

Probably would but there again, the career politicians are not going to vote for something that could cut them off their gravy train...
As long as enacting term limits for Congress is in the hands of Congress, it will never happen. If I’m pulling in big bucks in my government position, I’m not going to vote to limit my time in that government position.

I am no savant on the intricacies of the congressional mess.
BUT - I have decided to rely on this conclusion:
1 - the RULEs of how to finance the government have been devised and altered for half a century to make it almost impossible to do anything sensible in one legislative session - because with their control of the "media/propaganad" effect, any sentient person can see that anyone who even TRIEs to undo it will be utter destroyed and NOTHING can be accomplished in one session.
2 - the only way OUT of this is to begin lowering the flame under the boiling frog a few degrees at a time so that IN THE FUTURE (if rational thought prevails) we can get back to truly constitutional congressional action.
3 - in the MEANTIME - we have to survive the political attacks from all directions (some treasonous) while we root out the traitors one at a time.
4 - and place HOPE that the overall scheme will SURVIVE the gauntlet of attack from both sides while we struggle to remove all the impediments to honest government one brick at a time.
5 - anything else is a suicidal last ditch "Charge of the Light Brigade" effort that we hope will be remembered fondly by our successors (if there are any survivors)

I'm not disagreeing. Maybe this is the best a broken system can deliver.
Which is terrible, and may justify a Declaration of Independence style re-set.
