Should we not tax the rich?

“Tax the rich” does not mean abolish wealth or chase successful people out of the country. It means arguing over what share they should contribute. So “who pays when the rich are gone?” answers a position nobody took. That’s not a rebuttal bubba. It’s a scarecrow.

a few things on this. "Rich" is relative. If everyone had 10 dollars, and one individual sells a favor to another for $1, he immediately becomes "rich" and the buyer becomes "poor". You will NEVER eliminate class envy. Further, as has been studied over and over again, even total confiscation of upper-tier wealth cannot sustain government spending, and even if it could in the short-term, government would continue to spend at unsustainable levels until we reach total oblivion. As this happens, the wealthy would certainly expatriate their wealth and/or cease to generate additional wealth. Why work for nothing?

In theory, you are correct
In practice, you are very wrong

Then show the practice.
Which policy eliminated wealth, drove the rich away, or left nobody to fund the country?

America added 1,000 new millionaires a day in 2025.
41% of the world’s millionaires live in the US.
Our poor people would be considered very well off in many parts of the world.
Whine and moan. It’s the worst system except for all the others.

You don’t have to think rich people are “bad” in order to realize that a capitalist society and economy can’t function properly when most of the wealth wealth is concentrated in an extremely small percentage of the population.

Except that's exactly what happens. Every single time successful people consistently leave high tax jurisdictions, expatriate money, and offshore significant parts of their businesses. And who gets to decide what "share" they should pay? You? LOL

I refer you to my previous post.

So what’s the answer? What share should they contribute?

the top 10% of returns pay 70% of all collected income tax while 63% of americans pay nothing.
the middle class are welfare queens.

They want all of it. It'll never be enough. New York tried soaking the rich under David Paterson and lost 11B in tax revenue in less than 5 years while hemorrhaging hundreds of thousands of tax payers. Things are so bad that the governor, who mocked the wealthy for leaving the state just a few years ago was begging them to come back. Even Paterson himself later admitted that the policy was a giant loser for New Yorkers.
So what was their response? They elected a hoard of socialists to run their state.
The Democrat party has become a suicide pact.

I've worked in finance all my career. The rich get fricked at a disproportionate rate. Rich pay 36% in taxes while some trailer trash bitch with 5 kids doesn't work but somehow gets a "refund" of $9,000. This is just fricking people even worse. If you don't think they pay their fair share you should dig harder
yea people tend to not understand things like this that take higher than 100 iq to understand. same in my industry.
but people should understand we have the most progressive tax system in the 1st world. the top 1%, top 5% and top 10% pay an outrageous amount of the overall % of the tax bill.
but that requires one to think instead of running on "vibes"

Fast are facts. Check the numbers.
But it should be a flat tax rate for everyone. Straight across the board.
Except the government will never allow that.

many "millionaires" are just people with a decent 401k and own a house

That's what makes wealth productive. If was distributed to uneducated slobs like you then it would be wasted on your ignorance-driven frivolities.
