The tariff policy and rollout has been absolutely terrible. Mass confusion across industry

Meeting today with our company and nobody is sure what is coming effective tomorrow.
While I agree with the position and use of tariffs, this has been poorly communicated.
I get that this is a negotiation tactic being used by Trump admin, but the domestic roll off and understand of whats subject by who is all over the map.

It has been chaotic but it always was going to be such. That's why QPQ doesn't want it. The market does not like unknown quantities.

Absolutely not. Trump could have just said we would place reciprocal tariffs on all countries beginning May 1.
Easy. Firm deadline.
But this off, on, off, on, this much, that much, this much....it's amateur. And it's fricking a lot of industries.

You prefer the calculated movement of 3 million jobs overseas?
Tomorrow is the day. If Trump does some weird shite and pushes it back or something. Then we can do the collective wtf? Because he’s been the one personally talking about liberation day.

Trump has already raised duties on Chinese imports, steel, aluminium and some goods from Canada and Mexico. Higher levies on cars are due to go into effect this week.
We're now waiting for Trump to unveil the details of his plan for a wider set of tariffs, which his team has spent the last few weeks developing. The White House is calling it "Liberation Day"

You mean just slapping down the tariffs and calling it 'liberation day' isn't enough for you?

This would have been the right way to do it

I think this actually reinforces his unpredictable nature/persona.
I’m not saying it’s necessarily intentional, but it does keep people on their toes which to me is great.

You can thank the other countries for that. They commit to capitulation, then they dont, then they commit again then they dont.

What dimension of chess are we on?

That's why you give a deadline for reciprocal tariffs. No negotiations. Here's what we are doing. Here's when.
Too easy.

It’s been a terrible, poorly executed rollout
I give Trump a ton of runway for battling the entire global market and tax system to execute his vision. He’s been railing about tariffs publicly for almost 40yrs. I assume he has a master plan that can be executed well before mid terms
If not, hey. Lame duck city

It’s not great when the largest economy in the world hinges on his every word.

I don’t know but apply the effects of robotics/automation which are going to compound exponentially in the next 3-4 years

We are in the same boat.
I just tell people to hang tight. About all you can do.

There is no plan and no reasoning behind it. Just what "he" feels like on a specific day.

Its the "Art of the Deal".... its all good!
Imagine what you'd be bitching about if Harris would be the POTUS!
Think about it.

This will not end well. The markets and consumers hate uncertainty…

I appreciate all our Moderates who ignored the inflation we experienced over the past 4 years, but are now deeply concerned about the repercussions of a tariff war we have the upper hand in.
