If he does that it is a loss. The Dems next move is to say, "Well, a 3 day FBI investigation on such an important issue is too short. We need a comprehensive investigation, hopefully concluding by the Christmas holidays."

There is no amendment and this was made abundantly clear by flake and grassley.
Flake has a handshake deal with dems that he would pass this to the floor of the senate, but not vote there to confirm without the exact 1 week fbi investigation into current allegations.
trump has to approve fbi investigation.
McConnell and Schumer have to agree to postpone the vote pending an fbi investigation.

I guess I am wrong on the time frame. What I do know is that Cavanaugh’s nomination has moved past this committee. I think flake told Feinstein one thing and then did another based on her reaction.
Senator Graham seemed pretty damn pleased with the whole thing so I don’t think there is much doubt that he will ultimately be confirmed
Also go read Chad's page it is all complicated. Justice Thomas never got the committee votes that KAV GOT TODAY but is now a SCOTUS Justice.
Graham has POTUS on speed dial and has probably already talked to the WH lawyers and turtle to do what they want to; giving Flake political and his family literal cover as he was threatened.

The FBI cannot conduct a criminal investigation into an alleged 1982 state crime. They can reopen the background file and add 302s that will be redundant with what the committee already did. But of course Dems will then say that wasn't a "real" investigation. Flake got played.

There is nothing more for the FBI to.do.
There is already sworn testimony from both accused and accuser and all witnesses named by accuser deny the events ever happened.
These people do not want an investigation they want a delay until after Oct 1 so. Kavenaugh will miss this Supreme Court session and then they can work on winning the midterms to nominate some psychotic liberal who will shred the constitution to pieces after they either impeach or kill Trump. That is their end goal.
