Oh, believe me, I would LOVE to see all CODEL visits get cancelled permanently. They provide absolutely no value to the units or commands visited.

Same... They threw Afghanistan in to make it look like an important trip, so most people would overlook the Brussels and Egypt legs of the trip... Nothing more than a boondoggle on the taxpayer's dime and both sides do it...

You guys realize the magnitude of these boondoogles? I had a friend who was a front man for a former VP. Whole entourage would head to the Caribbean for some meet and greets on various islands, when it was done they headed back to DC, and then the entourage, due to the stress of the previous trip, would all head to Europe to relax.
Congressmen, Senators, all the dept heads and direct reports, you are talking thousands of people, with a dozen each in the entourage, taking eight to ten trips a year, you are talking 100s of thousands of trips.
And yes, first class hotels, meals, etc. And by the way, when your tab is US govt paid that 1000 dollar a night hotel room just became 2 grand, along with everything else.
You are talking multiple billions of dollars annually.
Congressmen, Senators, all the dept heads and direct reports, you are talking thousands of people, with a dozen each in the entourage, taking eight to ten trips a year, you are talking 100s of thousands of trips.
