Allow it before they codify it.

You can do it voluntarily or by force. By force and those are lost voters.

I loathe collective gay culture, but individuals wishing to marry should be allowed to do so.

Even polygamy.

Religion should not have anything to do with political affiliation. Marriage is a religious institution. No one that is a Christian should feel coerced to endorse that type of civil union.

If God is the only one that can bless a marriage as holy, then it doesn't matter if a priest/pastor decides to perform the ceremony itself. The ceremony is symbolic, and not a magical ritual.

If two people that are homosexual want to be married and recognized by the state as a couple, the WORD being used is irrelevant. If they find someone to perform the marriage itself, that too, is irrelevant.

If conservatives think they are more pro-freedom / pro-rights, they should indeed stfu about this distinction. No one is forcing the church to adopt this ideology. They're doing it on their own, because they don't seem to care about scripture.

Religious republicans... just leave those churches, and let your tithing go elsewhere and let that be that.

This is not the hill to die on. If God exists, then He and He alone can decide what marriages are blessed as a holy union. They're getting married one way or another, regardless of the way it is defined by words. The government should have no hand in deciding if people can or cannot get married. That's insanity.

republicans should embrace gay marriage, embrace transgenders, embrace fourth wave feminism, embrace redistribution of wealth, embrace increasing the welfare state at all costs, support open borders, support all gun control up to and including forced confiscation, repeal the first AND second amendment, fully support 100% legalization of any and all drugs, fully support 100% government paid for healthcare, and fully support and celebrate the murder of babies up to the first year post-birth.

once they do these things, they will finally start getting popular with Gen-Z.

Gen Z is forever lost. Deal with people who have a sane view of reality.

Zoomers will be incapable of governing themselves.

People who can't govern themselves require BigGov to survive.

bullshite. We've had laws regulating marriage since it was legally recognized, and we STILL have laws regulating marriage and not a single one of you is pissing and moaning about them because it's not socially convenient to stick up for the rights of Achmed wanting to marry his 12 year old cousin.

Make deals.

Agree to not fight gay marriage and first trimester abortion in a trade for gun rights being strengthened.

Stop being touchy. We are clearly talking about adults in this situation. Do not liken pedophilia with this. It is not the same. The government has NO role dictating whether or not adults can or cannot have a civil union, nor should they get to dictate how a word (marriage) can or cannot be used. It's silly to think otherwise.

Minimize government's powers.

Bingo.

Can't be small government and restrict the rights of adults to enter into contracts.

Why does government have to get in on marriage between two consenting adults in the first place?

I'm pointing out dishonest arguments. If we have regulations on marriage, then changing them doesn't change the size of government or freedom. The government still has the power to dictate who can and can't get married; you haven't minimized anything. Government didn't get smaller just because SCOTUS created a law for an entire country.

If we like gay marriage, fine, but stop pretending it's about smaller government.

Why just two? And why adults? That's just your social norms and morals; not everybody shares them.

Most of this will die with the boomer generation.

Just be patient.

The vast majority of conservative-minded individuals in their 40s or below care very little about gay marriage as an issue.

It’s largely crotchety evangelicals.

Why is government even involved in ANY marriage??? Where in the constitution is the Federal Government granted to power to control marriage?

There's alot to like and dislike in the current republican party imo. But what makes me just short of calling myself a republican is their opposition to gay marriage. The party of small government should really stop caring about what consenting adults do between themselves. You can still be conservative while liking d**k like me.

Hopefully, they vote for the Respect for Marriage Act this week.

But we just want to get married.
