History and Tradition matters in CFB. Fans will still show up and might even show up more if it became pure again. Yes we would have to accept an overall lower quality of play but I think most fans would be okay with that.
100% true. High school sports proves this point. High school sports are major rallying points for communities around the nation. It could be argued that eliminating college athletic scholarships that college sports would be come more of a regional rallying point than currently. It would certainly make college sports more pure.

I'd say the USFL would have survived quite well during the fall season if the NFL was virtue signaling during that time and the USFL offered a different political take for the football consumer.
I'll put it this way, I know a ton of black people were pissed, offended even about the whole Kaepernick situation. But when push comes to shove they never stopped watching. There's not much evidence to suggest that Americans can be dissuaded from watching the NFL under any circumstances. Death, Taxes, and the NFL.
How would you anticipate this new league would position itself from a marketing standpoint?

Agreed. Part of me looks back at games even in the 80s or 90s and misses the Pageantry you saw back then. Players for the most part played because they loved the game and they loved their university, not because they were obsessed with getting to the NFL. Most of them knew they weren't ever going to play professionally. Senior Day actually meant something. Marching Bands still meant something and they weren't neutered by all the junk being played over the sound system. Think about Marching Bands today, many of them hardly play outside of Pre-Game, Halftime and after Scores. Conferences still had a regional identity. Bowl games still mattered. It's really sad.

The Saints still have a waiting list for season tickets but I think it's been that way since 2006. It will be interesting to see if that waiting list goes away in the near future.

Exactly. I tore up my Kamara jersey yesterday and sent it back to Saints HQ in Metairie. I'm done with the Saints.
I'm just worried at this point it's going to infiltrate CFB and then I'll have to make a decision there.
Who knows, at some point I might be back to watching high school football.

Literally the most ridiculous idea I've ever seen on this board which is really saying something.

shite, I haven't thought about it that deeply.
However the obvious objective would be to attract the disillusioned NFL fan and fans that just want more football content.

No. It's 100% false. Sports are entertainment. People want to see the elite competing. Just like any other form of entertainment. Would you pay a premium price to go watch mediocre musicians? Would you spend 20 dollars an entree in a restaurant where the food sucks? No.
And for that same reason no one is going to go watch a bunch of mediocre athletes play football. And given what we know about cte who the hell would play college ball without a scholarship?
You want some division 3 caliber running back getting his head cracked by the likes of a Devin White caliber athlete all game? Come on this is just silly. People show up to major college football because there are elite athletes on display. Remove the elite athletes and the sport sucks.

I'd push back to you the same why I pushed back to my friends who talking noise about boycotting over the Kaepernick stuff. My principle is that I do not require ideological alignment with folks or organizations who are there to entertain me. I like football and the Saints look strong this year.

Silliness.
The XFL would still be played by at least 70% people who fricking hate you.
Stop cheering for people who hate you just because it's not obvious on a football field.
Do a backyard BBQ and invite family and friends.
Play Golf. Walk a trail. Exercise more.
Do something that supports you, not something that denigrates you.

This has been tried and has failed by people with pretty good business acumen. It's proven that it won't work

As long as universities keep the players in the locker rooms during the national anthem the infiltration into CFB should be held to a minimum. The national anthem is the time for virtue signalers to signal.

Fair enough. I like football a lot so I would watch your league at least once. I gave the XFL a chance. twice....

Just because they don't kneel doesn't mean they don't hate you.
The kneeling isn't the problem people.
