That may be some of it, but what they really want to do is protect their money laundering operations in Ukraine they use to funnel tax payer money back to themselves.

They do it it makes it more of a humanitarian thing and indiscriminate killing like the Axis and Allies did.

. But I was speaking of just military thought. They end it that way.

I’m still surprised Israel hasn’t done anything with their doctrine of protecting all of the Jewish faith

CNN reporting now the explosion over Kyiv tonight was a Ukrainian SU-27 shot down by Russian anti-air battery in the city's suburbs. Ukraine has lost the skies over its capital. Grim.

I tend to believe the other reports….

I agree, but I was talking specifically about the lunatic democrat base. They aren't seeing this as Ukraine vs Russia. It's Ukraine vs Russia and Donald Trump.

How many people are actually being killed in this? Seems like with the bombing there should be high causalities

The number will go up after tonight and will probably be revised in coming days, but so far the official civilian death toll is between 10 - 50. That seems really low, but it is possible. The USSR designed bomb shelters into their cities when they rebuilt after WW@. Plus the old soviet apartment buildings (which are still present in a large part of Ukraine) were built out of reinforced concrete and they all had coal fired heating systems in each unit. Which means that each apartment building has huge spaces in the basements where coal would be stored before residents carried it up to their apartment each day. This coal storage bunkers all have ventilation fans to keep the coal dust from building up and starting a fire as well as multiple coal chutes from the outside. The coal heaters have mostly been replaced by gas or electric heaters which left huge spaces made out of reinforced concrete underneath most apartment buildings that can be used as bomb shelters which have decent ventilation.

Also Kyiv and the other major cities have massive subway stations that can be used as shelters. The USSR went all out on making the subways a symbol of power and grandeur plus they were originally designed to be nuclear shelters as well subway stations.

So all of that helps.

I heard they got the airbase back today

The Ukrainian government and most foreign media outlets are saying they did. CNN's correspondent is still saying that the Russians control it. Maybe the CNN guy does not know the difference between a Ukrainian and a Russian. However, the AN-225 was destroyed in the fighting.

As I recall the subways are deeper underground than normal as well due to their use as shelters.

BREAKING: Russia says it will return the airlines sanctions it was slapped with, mirror the same ones for the west.

Does this mean that Aeroflot is kicked out SkyTeam? Their service was crappy compared to KLM and Air France, but their flight attendants were smoking hot on most of the flights I have been on.

That is also true. 20 of the 52 stations in Kyiv are what are considered "deep stations." Kyiv's larget metro station next to the main part of the center Kyiv is the deepest subway station in the world. It is 105.5 meters or 346 feet below ground according to wikipedia. The system was also designed for the power the to the track to automatically cut off when an air raid siren sounds so the tunnels can also be used as shelters. Since they were designed to be nuclear shelters they also have great ventilation systems.

I have ridden the Kyiv metro and its cars are crappy but the stations put American subway stations to shame.

Is the Ukrainian government encouraging the use of Subways as shelters? In the Blitz the British government tried to keep people out of subways initially
