You can’t compare what Russia did in Afghanistan or is doing in Ukraine to its role in Syria…. Like comparing apples to bowling balls.

Me, too, but it seems the majority of Russians are content having a dictator. They don’t like politics and the craziness that comes from a multi-party system, apparently.

To oust Putin if would take someone in govt. now and an influential coalition.

Putin is enjoying 80% of support rate.
Invasion of Ukraine is what Russian population want to do.
Otherwise, NATO will be too close to the border.
From the beginning, Russia does not have interests in Kyiv.
It attacked Kyiv to make sure Ukrainian armies in the eastern front did not pull back. It achieved its goal.
This war will be low intensity war for the next 10 years.

If the Russian elite want his approval rate at 90% the poll would read 90% tomorrow. If they want it at 99% that would be no problem.

The USSR and their allied bordered NATO at one time. NATO never attacked them. This is bs.

They drew on RE Lee’s experience in Maryland and later in Pennsylvania. Shrewd. Charge into your opponents country, lose a lot of your men and material and then hit them where you really want to hit them,

I predict Putin won’t make ten years.

Unconfirmed reports that the Ukrainians hit the flagship of the Blacksea fleet with two Neptune missiles.
Lots of posts showing up on Twitter that the ship is sending out distress calls that it's sinking.
Maybe a few days before we know if it's real. I'm not holding my breath given the other false reports of ships being hit.

Not sure what makes you claim this. Russian is a democratic country. It is not as democratic like US. But people's voice can be heard.

NATO is keeping expanding into the border of Russia. It is understandable Russia does not feel comfortable. Similarly US did not like USSR deploy missiles in Cuba. Russian scare is reasonable. How can you call it bs?

Russian people have very high tolerance of death rate. Look at all of the wars Russian fight in the last 200 years. Ukraine does not have the resources to drive out Russian army in the eastern Pro-Russia areas.
I predicate Russian troops will stay in Ukraine with less number. The pro-Russian rebels will keep fighting. Russian air force will keep bombing Ukrainian cities at will.

Russia claims it was an ammo fire and everyone evacuated safely.
That ship was the largest anti-air weapon Russia had in the south. Ukraine could start hitting stuff with those MiG planes they totally don’t have.

And the Putin bots will come by and say it was part of Putin's plan, or it wasn't the Ukrainians, it was a mine. You know its coming.

quote:NATO has shared a border with Russia since 1999 and that border expanded significantly in size in 2004. I think the shared border is something like 1000 km long.
Otherwise, NATO will be too close to the border.
If Finland joins NATO this summer, that border is going to double in size.

I think Finland and Sweden will be in NATO before Summer. Both are eager to get in as soon as possible. Putin has scared some sense into them.

Just think about that for a second… a ‘major’ world power losing a flagship vessel in 2022… it’s hard to wrap your mind around.
What a clusterfrick.
What a clusterfrick.

It was the 2nd most powerful active ship in the Russian Navy.
The most powerful is the Kirov class Peter the Great. Russia has 2 Kirov class ships, the other is undergoing a refit and is expected to reenter service in 2023.
Russia had 3 Slava class boats (now 2) one of the two remaining boats is in active service in the Northern Fleet while the other is assigned to the Pacific fleet but is currently not combat ready.

Actually since 1949 when Norway joined NATO. It ain't much of a border but it is technically there.
And technically this isn't a "line in the sand" border either but the Bering strait is all that separates Russia from the USA and for six months a year you can walk across and a US military base can see Russia from about 36 miles away from it's airport landing strip tower.

Okay, so let's invade Siberia. Said no one. What would attacking Nome, Alaska accomplish. Your military logic is Fisher Price level.
Forgot to add "technically"
