What that map doesn't articulate is how rural the South is and how many of us need to drive several miles to get food from the grocery store and even further for medical care.

Absolutely. Those urban populations in Montana, Wyoming and South Dakota don’t understand what rural life is like. More big city liberals...

It's obvious the south should secede for the safety and well-being of the rest of the US.

States like Montana, the Dakotas, and Wyoming are in similar distance predicaments; so I’m not sure that’s the rationale.

Most people who live in Montana, the Dakotas, and Wyoming live in cities due to the massive distances involved in those states. For instance, a third of all the people who live in the state of Wyoming live in the cities of Cheyenne and Casper.

What a ridiculous visual. It obviously doesn't even consider population/commercial density differences in the country...a good example of how poor premise makes for incorrect analogies.

Yankees are worse than Mexicans. Quarantine them from the South permanently for all I care.

This map is also racist as it highlights the heaviest black areas.

It also doesn't consider that South Texas is predominantly Hispanic.

This second map is a good rebuttal.

no shite. it is a mile to get to the front of our neighborhood. So we are routinely traveling 5-10 miles just to get to the store and back.

LOL! My driveway is over 1000 feet long!

Thank you NYT for reinforcing why the Electoral

If every city with 1,000,000 or more inhabitants suddenly stopped existing, the remainder of the world would lose some luxuries - along with most mass entertainment options - but would otherwise get along just fine.

If the world outside of cities with 1,000,000 or more inhabitants suddenly stopped existing, those who remained would quickly starve to death, because they serve no useful purpose.

I'm real, real good with option "A" above.

Next will be a map of the infected Yankees coming south to spread the virus, right?

I was about to post that. The NYT is implying that the area with the highest concentration of minorities is unable or unwilling to comply with recommendations. Clearly racist.

Montana and South Dakota are rural too. What could be different?

How many of those continuing to drive in the South were New Yorkers trying to escape to the South?

It should be accompanied with stupid zoomers from the NE going to frolic on the beaches for Spring Break. That is far more indicative of selfishly ignoring the risk vs traveling for sustenance.

How does that explain out west though?

Because the very few people that live there, are so far from anywhere, they rarely go off of their farm. They stock up with what they need ahead of time.

To be fair, being a transsexual fashion blogger who relies 100% on food delivery doesn’t require any travel, so not surprising. Just turn on Bravo and there you go.

Ok sure, But those states and areas are still green while cities and counties of the South with those same populations are red.

I don’t think your premise of driving 2 miles for the grocery holds up when you look at the West. I think it’s a case of good ole baws in the South just didn’t give a shite.
