Republicans held the Presidency, House, and Senate just three short years ago. This all comes in cycles. Neither party can seem to get out of their own way when they control all three. Democrats will mess it up and over step their authority. America doesn't like it when one party has control of all three. The problem will be that all the MAGA people seem to be indicating they will sit the next election out. This will guarantee the Democrats victory, and continue to allow them impose their policies for the foreseeable future.

Congrats, you rediscovered the age old "problem - solution" theory. If you manufacture a problem convincingly enough, the people will beg you for the solution... And it just so happens that the solution is what you wanted the entire time.

Honest question, what's going on in other 'free' countries? The UK, France, Germany, Canada, etc. Is the right being silenced over there? Have they already been silenced?
The Overton window has long shifted in those countries. Although, they've never really been free by American Standards.
The thing people have to realize is that most of human history has been under totalitarian, oligarchical, authoritarian rule. America is the exception, not the rule. That's what American exceptionalism and the Great Experiment was all about. It was a new and radical idea at the time. Give people unfettered freedom and let's see where it goes. It only made the greatest country in the history of humanity but old habits die hard and much of humanity would rather trade freedom for safety and there's always a subset of power-hungry shitheads to rise to the top to provide that fear whether warranted or not.
Ultimately we have nothing to fear but fear itself.

I'm not sure why the dims being a bunch if hypocrites surprises anyone. We just need to find leaders to stand up to them.
This is the only thing that gives me hope. Not in the short-term but over the long run. Millennials are mostly Clueless, fearful, ignorant pussies but the new millennial and gen Z conservatives have balls that are way bigger than any Boomer or Gen X balls. These young conservatives are willing to stand up not only to their liberal Millennial cohorts but also to The Establishment conservatives and Democrats alike.
Nobody should be voting for conservatives over the age of 40 for office right now. It's usually good to have the wisdom of the elders in positions of power but all the elders right now are born from maybe the most selfish and greedy generation of all time.

People with friends/contacts/ knowlwdge etc in Venezuela ...i need some understanding.
How did it get to the point that it is there. Did the masses buy the line " you were wronged and we will make itb right" only to be followed up with " yeah kids are dying due to lack of food but..it's americas fault" or what?
They have to be believing something to keep the status quo going ...and not revolting

These people who are supporting the social media and cheering their deeds are no different than a blindfolded captive at this point. They have no capability to see what is not right in front of their eyes.
These some people started off as supporters of the anti bully cause and like all good causes they run their course to the point they become what they started to fight against. The liberal media and social media platforms use every tactic of a school bully and their followers are so hooked they cannot see it.
The bully followers follow so that they do not become the target of the bully themselves but a bully always has to have a target. When they run out of targets they eventually start bullying their followers.

Looks more like Stalinism or Maoism to me, but why quibble over which form of totalitarianism is creeping in.

Somethings things are complicated and sometimes simple.
Trump got in and messed with their shite.
They don’t like Trump.
Their dislike for Trump is greater than any other law or logic you can put forward.

Nope, the most disturbing part is the fact that trumpers ransacked our nations capital baw. And more armed protests are planned. Of course you are hearing normal US citizens be happy you don’t have the same platform for this bullshite to happen.

So far this week
President of ABC News--America must be completely cleansed of the Trump movement.
PBS--children of Trump supporters should be sent to reeducaton camps
Writers for The Washington Post and New York Times on MSNBC--Trump supporters must be deprogrammed.
Those are all examples of the mainstream media(which for all practical effect is the Democratic Party) calling for institution of Draconian authoratarionistic applications of total oppression of political opposition. If I am doing anything I am underselling the severity of the threat and the direness of the situation.

No, I think we're more following the Fall of the Roman Republic. The Punic Wars were equivalent to our World Wars, the Gracchus Brothers were equivalent to our Kennedy Brothers, and Trump is a pathetic Gaius Marius. Sulla is up next, and then we get Crassus, Caesar, and Pompey the later two of which are probably in their 20s or 30s right now.

I do sincerely believe this country is entering an extended period of instability and division.
It'll slowly dissipate. The hate, name calling and divisive rhetoric became so routine and normal. Without the constant reinforcement and empowerment, it will decline quite rapidly.
