We don't understand martyrdom. We would do well to learn about it.

The state of the economy doesn’t mean dick to these people. The IRGC and people in charge of Iran will eat while the masses starve. As I said last night in the end they will use it as another form of control. As food and other critical goods gets more scarce the regime will control who gets what and how much is given. If you play ball and do not cause trouble the regime will slide a little out. For those that will not play ball then they will starve. Remember the IRGC has the guns. The people also know they will use those guns on them. Until the people have arms and can fight back then this regime will make the people submit one way or the other. They could care less about the economy.

I think we're mistaken in looking at their attachment to 'economy' through our western perspective.

I think you've fallen into the "instant gratification" trap that does affect/infect western perspective. This is a blatantly obvious siege. The Strait is not important. Their ports are.

Someone above mentioned that we might be short of defensive munitions. That is unrealistic. That would be cause to go completely offensive. We're not for a reason.

We understand it enough to let them martyr each other. I don't think they get their 72 virgins by starving to death.

Maybe.

But honestly, I think their motivations are far different from our own. Safety, security, prosperity, ports- all pale in comparison to their highest desire, highest reward.

If we expect them to think like we think- we will always be disappointed.

Iran has something like 17/25 missile launch sites on the Strait of Hormuz still fully operational. You could escalate for sure, but then you’re looking at a very war-weary public opinion and elements of the right and left coming after you, along with the responsibility of nation building and a longer term commitment. What’s the best option? Not sure, but we have to ween Israel off of the American taxpayer and negotiate with the Arabs independently and separately.

When we say “economy” we primarily mean basic necessities of life. I assume that each person’s quality of life is commensurate with the income they bring home. And I assume as the economy continues to suffocate, the money being brought home will dry up, quality of life turns to desperation, and desperate people, masses of them becoming desperate all around the same time, that’s exactly what the ruling class fears most.

Allahu Akbar... they truly believe this, feel this, live by this, and, most importantly for us westerners to understand- are HONORED to die by this.

They are not like you and I, moved my the price of fuel or the availability of toilet paper.

Who gives a frick about the Strait? They are shut out of their ports. THAT is the siege and it is working exactly as planned. That people cannot see this is absolutely astounding to me.

I highly doubt the average Iranian...one with wives and kids...believe this as whole-heartedly as the IRGC folks. Probably most of the regular army also.

You summed up this board in less than 150 characters.... Kudos do you.

That should honestly be the slogan of this board at this point.
