The FBI’s Image In 1971 VS. 2021....

News item: Alabama trooper charged in child rape hid checkered FBI past....
When I was a kid, Sunday evening was family TV night. My entire family would watch “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” “The Wonderful World of Disney” and finally “The FBI: In Color.”
“The FBI” starred Efrem Zimbalist Jr. as a straight-arrow FBI Chief Inspector who played by the rules and always got his man. A biography that I read of J. Edgar Hoover indicated that Hoover was so worried about the image of the FBI, Hoover would not only vet every episode, he instructed the agency to run background checks on the actors to insure that no moral reprobates or individuals with criminal backgrounds were hired to portray FBI agents.
Since those halcyon days of my youth, I of course have since learned that the FBI has been since it’s inception an extra-Constitutional and morally suspect organization that Hoover ruthlessly used to blackmail and otherwise target his political rivals in Washington D.C. Yet I do believe that at one time, rank and file agents were solid citizens and morally upstanding men.
My how times have changed. Now it seems being a moral reprobate is a prerequisite for being an FBI agent.

Of shite . From infiltrating the kkk and then getting them to commit bad acts so they could arrest people ... to infiltrating college radicals in the sixties ... and getting them to commit crimes so they could arrest them. I honestly think we would have been better off as a country if they had never existed .

Fun fact. Agents weren't even allowed to be armed when the Agency was formed. It was kind of like a benign group of investigators to look into stuff for the government. Hoover wanted more power and singlehnadedly bullied and blackmailed them into what they are now.

You were duped by a PR campaign in the 70s. Hoover exclusively used blackmail of celebrities and politicians to increase his power and that of the FBI. They have been about power and influence since then.

The image has been distorted since its beginning. Hoover fudged the killing of John Dillinger, taking undue credit. He stated for years that there was no organized crime until the late 1950s discovery of the Appalachian New York meeting gave undeniable proof of its existence. I recently could not watch the propaganda movie The FBI Story although I usually try to see Jimmy Stewart movies. It makes me sick to think of a real hero like Stewart serving the false narrative of Hoover’s honestly and morality.

And even today even a US Senator or Representative cannot cross them or they will manufacture evidence and end you on the spot.
Because people out there actually believe getting arrested by the FBI should have a single shred of legitimacy.

Maybe there was even some Russian collusion and cooperation between USA and Russia to keep us from the real truth. One day we gonna be free but it ain't today. Honestly I would never have dreamed that I could even feel this way about how our govt has not been what's best for the USA. I just always thought USA was for me not against me. Today, I feel diff. However bad it is, it's probably still the best place to be in comparison to the rest of the world. That will prob change as this foolishness in govt continues to go full socialist.
