How to talk to your kids about the riots at the U.S. Capitol

quote:

The riots in the U.S. Capitol were terrifying for people across the world — especially children.
Many are asking their parents questions about what happened Wednesday, as Trump supporters broke police barricades and rioters illegally entered the Capitol. Some parents may not feel like they're ready to discuss such complicated issues with their children

You need to get outside of your partisan echo chamber more often. The stuff about kids asking questions is nonsense, but outrage over 1/6 is not fabricated, it's real.

Link the similar articles about the BLM and Antifa riots.

Hell, link me an article explaining to me how to excuse and discuss Chicago, Detroit, and Baltimore gun violence with my kids.

If you pull your head out of Trump's arse you would realise it is a pretty big deal to the US Capital breached. And yes, if you have raised your children right they should be asking questions about how that could happen.

Progstains need a media company to indoctrinate their kids.

Sad. They can’t even do that for themselves.

The part where the police opened up the barricade and knuckle bumped the protestors really choked my kids up. Seeing a licensed therapist this afternoon.

I’ll teach them that:
(a) it wasn’t a riot;
(b) when the government lies, cheats, and steals, the people have no choice but to revolt; and
(c) by any means possible, they must protect themselves from government tyranny.

This is so easy.

You support the protests and condemn the violent part.

This protest was a very American thing and it was a good thing.

Election integrity must not be ignored and unless protests continue, it will be.

From the school I send my child....and received two others from the lower school head and other personnel:

As we process as individuals and as a community the awful and deeply unsettling events in Washington D.C. on January 6, I want acknowledge the historic and terrifying nature of the violent attack on our Capitol and on our democracy. Simultaneously, I want to acknowledge the strength of our community during challenging times.

As we continue as a community to navigate the challenges of a global pandemic, a financial crisis, and a crisis around racial justice, the addition of this unprecedented event adds complexity, challenge, and emotion. I want to be unequivocally clear in forcefully condemning this violent attack as contrary to our core beliefs as American citizens and members of the (removed) community. Additionally, this moment provides an opportunity to ask difficult questions about norms, biases, equity, and decency.

Given the gravity of the situation, we want to be supportive and helpful to our students. Our division heads are working with our teachers and counselors to support our students in developmentally appropriate ways. As always, we will provide support and opportunity for students who want to engage in conversation. However unsettling, this event provides a context for teaching and learning. Our core values of Honesty, Kindness, Respect, and Responsibility as well as our Principles for Civil Discourse will guide our conversations and actions.

We appreciate your support and understanding in navigating complex times. I continue to be optimistic and grateful for our school community.

And amazing nothing from them when the months of protest (riots) were taking place in multiple cities for many weeks burning down businesses, destroying property, injuring/attacking police officers...

And the consistency throughout so many emails I saw yesterday from “different” schools in the area, it’s almost as if the schools’ messaging is coordinated like the news.....

The media is our biggest problem with everything. Go listen to Michael Berry interview Megan Kelly from yesterday. She lays it out well.
