The cost of shipping a container from China to the U.S. hit a record $20,586

The commercial pipeline that each year brings $1 trillion worth of toys, clothing, electronics and furniture from Asia to the United States is clogged and no one knows how to unclog it.
This month, the median cost of shipping a standard rectangular metal container from China to the West Coast of the United States hit a record $20,586, almost twice what it cost in July, which was twice what it cost in January, according to the Freightos index. Essential freight-handling equipment too often is not where it’s needed, and when it is, there aren’t enough truckers or warehouse workers to operate it.
As Americans fume, supply headaches that were viewed as temporary when the coronavirus pandemic began now are expected to last through 2022.

Naw, Democrats laugh at things like this. Just part of destroying the country. You speak like they will have to or want to fix this. They may pretend to, but whatever they do will make it purposefully, much worse.

The highest we’ve paid so far is $28,500 last month. We were paying an average of $4500 pre Covid. It’s pretty insane.

Last one I paid for was 24k. And that's not even including the tariffs which Biden promised he would get rid of.
Americans are gonna see huge price increases this fall.

As much as the government controls, they do not control how or where I spend my money, yet... That is what will drive making things in this country again more than anything else...

This is coming regardless of what we do but we can make it as painful as possible before they manage to get it done...

Turtle's Father-in-Law is making a killing.
Which brings me to my question. Is everyone in Washington,D.C. on the take? Inquiring minds want to know.

Well…how did they become multimillionaires by working at jobs that pay $150k/yr?

This is exactly what IB Ximan wants.

So maybe we should do business elsewhere? China isn't the cheap option anymore.

I hope a few things come from this.
Democrats destroy any goodwill amongst moderate blues and independents.
America stops relying on china for every little thing

Manufacturing doesn’t turn on a dime.
They have been undercutting us and other countries for years between slave labor, government subsidies, intellectual theft, etc.
We can move away from them but it requires another economy be able to make up that manufacturing and shipping we need from them.
Think of this as China boycotting US soybeans last year or so. There were only so many soybeans to be bought and they weren’t buying from us, so Brazil gouged them and bought our soybeans to account for the extra demand.
This is fixable in the long term but not in a short timeframe.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg. We import 20M pounds red iron oxide from China, India and Germany yearly. Asia imports were always more than India and Germany container freight cost. Over the last month they have said, US manufacturers will pay and their rates are now in lock step with Asia.
The freight and handling cost are now cost more than the product inside those containers. The sudden, last 6 months, rise in container freight cost is sending US manufactured goods, that use raw materials from overseas to soar. Hell, Home Depot, said frick it and leased their own ship to move only their goods.
The Walmarts, Targets etc will bid higher to make sure their "trinkets" get on board and they will bump raw materials to later sailings. WE can't raise pricing fast enough. Very interesting times.

I know this isn’t the saying, but you can hope in one hand and shite in the other. Let me know which one fills up faster.
Unfortunately.
