The fact that you're taxed when you get your money then taxed when you spend that taxed money then you're told you're not taxed enough is enough to drive someone insane.

And when you invest it in anything other than a Roth, the corporation you invest in gets taxed, and then when you receive dividends, that is generally treated as income for tax purposes. When you sell that investment, you get taxed if there is a gain. If you want to gift it to your kids, they have to pay taxes. Your reward? You get demonized and used as political fodder for not paying your fair share to the majority of Americans who are financially illiterate and irresponsible.

That property tax currently funds these things does not mean it is the only means for doing so.

Capital gains tax is the most ridiculous imo.

Given the realities of our economy in that our "dark" or off the books all cash economy is nearly as large as our on the books economy, we probably should have higher sales taxes, and lower income taxes

A lot of my family land comes from some of my ancestors riding with the then General Jackson driving out Natives from the Tennessee Valley before such territory was recognized as American land, excepting in the abstract "continuous borders" of existing states.
Not much you can do about highway bandits with badges, though.
