I'm not a big fan of my government. I'm not sure if you've heard, but the Russians rigged our elections and now we have an illigitimate racist president.
Do I get to go to Honduras with 5000 other gringos and be granted instant, resistance-free political assylum?

Have you never seen an MLS game or USNMT game in Los Angeles...against Mexico?
It's all Mexican flags and Viva Mexico chants.
Hell this was US-Chinese fans in the Women's World Cup in 1999...cheering on their Communist Country - the one they escaped from because it was awful - against the US - the country the escaped to for the opportunity to better their lives.
The days of immigrants embracing this country as their own are mostly over. It's just the US dollars they want...allegiance is still elsewhere.

Exactly. This is political theater backed by globalist politicians and lobbyists.
It takes a whole ton of unbelievable arrogance, ignorance, and insanity to show up at a foreign country you weren't invited to, insist that you be allowed to live there and take full advantage of its citizens and government programs without petitioning for citizenship, refuse to assimilate at all to the country's customs or learn the native language, and demand that the country you showed up at bend over backwards to accommodate you and your customs from the country you fled.
And for a major political party and its constituents representing roughly half the United States to not only fully publically support all of the above, but also to denounce, dismiss, and attack anyone who sees the problems inherent there as monsters is dangerously close to irreconcilable differences in this nation.

No. Didn't Obama throw out tons of illegal immigrants? What makes you think that I would be for letting in tons and tons of immigrants? Illegal immigration in terms of border crossing has been going down since the early 2000s. You are being manipulated into voting for Republicans again. There is no great border War

Had this discussion with my fiancé today. I don’t understand why people from economically depressed and oppressed economies leave their country (obviously for the opportunities here) but at the same time would want to turn the US into the third world hell hole they left.

This is the great fallacy. Prior to obama we had deportees (from the interior) and turnarounds at the border. obama lumped the two together and called them all deportees, then compared the number to previous year's deportees only. Given there are far more turnarounds, he looked like the "deportee" president.
If you look back at previous admin and lump them together and compare to obama years, they deported far more. And in the last few years of his admin, with catch and release in full swing, there was little enforcement whatsoever.
Ive also heard the theory that more people returned home vs came over "due to the recession". Does any sane person actually believe, during a worldwide recession, that mejico suddenly became a mecca for jobs? The same aforementioned numbers were used to show fewer "turnarounds" at the border and thus less overall migration. In essence in one argument they called them all deportees, in another they called them turnarounds.
If you dig through the DHS website support sheets, you will find the asterisks and footnotes, but the clickbait is there for all to see.
