Apparently you don't "get it" at all.

I'm still trying to figure out whether or not Chicken has rescinded his No Religious Topics edict or not.

Years ago we used to have fantastic debates on this board about religious topics and they got shut down because too many religious folks kept complaining about them being on the board...so he banned them.

So...are they back, or are they back so long as they are pro-religion only? This thread is nothing but proselytizing.

Again...it's his board and I'm happy to abide by whatever the owner wants, but if that's the ruling can we at least just have that said straight up so they we all understand the playing field we're on?

It seems to be a lot more flexible than it used to be on here and the OT.

The same Book tells us that you will be despised, just like Jesus was despised. Just for writing or saying what you just wrote. Makes you wonder why people would despise something or someone they do not believe in.

Your timing is perfect. On the day that possibly the last great evangelist is laid to rest.

Bravo!

While this may be true...

Your safest bet is to bet on the one where the reward is the greatest

And

Which has the loss as the worst possible.

Edit:

Two quick examples...

1) Never become a Jehovah's witness because Hell is just the grave. Plus ALL people will be resurrected and have 1000 years to decide to worship god. If they decide against they die and go back to just a grave.
Only 144k people actually get to go to heaven and the rest just live here on earth.

IOW no risk. Low reward.

2) Mormons
The only chance of going to hell is if you become a Morman and then leave the faith

Mormans don't go to heaven but get their own solar system to be minir gods over.

Zero risk if you never become a Mormon. Debatable reward if you join and stay true to faith.

I used to go to church and read the Bible from time to time, and I’m for anyone believing in Christianity. I don’t see how believing in Christianity is so hated by some and yet they don’t complain about Islam.

Having said that, I really don’t want any part of a god created in the Middle East. There has been nothing but trouble in that region. We are created imperfect, but we are to strive for perfection which is impossible. I don’t need a book to tell me how I’m supposed to treat another human being.

Why stop at the Ten Commandments when there are many, many more.

Why would an African American believe the Bible? It condoned slavery and included passing the servants down to their descendants.

We are supposed to get to god thru Jesus. Wonder why we can’t get to god without Jesus?

Personally, I don’t want a god that would let his son die.

what kind of plan would you say involves about 30,000 kids under the age of five dying every day from starvation, abuse, neglect and diarrhea.

Believe how/what you want. But at least be knowledgeable in your argument. The Bible says the earth is temporary and the devil has dominion here. Heaven is God's and is our reward. Nothing in the Bible says it will be easy or pain free on earth. He set the world in motion and gave the devil free reign. We either believe in him and have faith that Heaven is worth it, or we don't. Can God intervene in everything, yes. Does He? No. Can anyone explain that? Nope.......I hope He will make me understand one day.

ETA: BTW, feel free to find where RAPE, TORTURE, SLAVERY, CHILD ABUSE, CHILD MOLESTATION, etc are in the 10 Commandments. I realize that there are some other super important ones that needed to come first, like not talking god's name in vain, and no graven images, and no other gods, so I guess there maybe wasn't enough room for those trivial, mankind based moral laws though.

Great arguments. I am a believer and I struggle with explaining things like this, too. And why do I need to know a guy got drunk and slept with his daughters? We could both cite examples all day. At the end of the day, you either believe or you don't. We'll never know the answers in this life. The risk of being wrong isn't worth it to me. If I'm wrong, I'll go to the ground and not know any different. But if I'm right..............

African's don't have exclusive rights to slavery, ya know.

Lol. Holy shite! Dude, every time you type something about how you feel or think it makes you look like a buffoon. So you could just go around right now and just start blasting people, they'd be in a better place and it was all part of God's plan? fricking shite for brains

1 Where do you get your morals.
My parents beat them in to me

2 You will grow out of your Rebellious phase
I'm 55 and not likely to change core ideology/beliefs

3. So you want to outlaw all Religion
No!

4. You're what's wrong with Society today
I take personal responsibility for my actions and have trained my children to do the same

5. 95% of the World believes in God. Doesn't that mean something.
NO! 100% of the world has believed the earth was the center of the Universe and that the World was flat at one time

6. It takes just as much faith to be an Atheist as it does to believe in God.
No Atheist would agree with that statement.
Even If I acknowledged that statement to be true then certainly every agnostic would be better positioned.

7. How arrogant
Ok

8. You cant prove there is no God.
No one has to prove the negative.
You certainly cant prove there is a God

9. Atheism is a religion too.
No. The name itself means no god. Therefore no religion

10. The evidence of God is all around you.
Nope!
That is the whole point of faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

11 God loves you anyway
This is often repeated but is simply not true.
If there is a God and I reject him(at least the Judeo-Christian God) Then I will spend eternity in hellfire and damnation. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Therefore if God loved me "anyway" he wouldn't torment me forever!

12 What is stopping you from going on a crime spree
I'm at work

13. Pascal's wager
The main part is what do you have to lose...
I addressed that in my prior post. he whole logical point was if you believe in Pascal's wager you should choose the belief system that punishes you the most if you are in error. If that system turned out to be wrong then any other system would be less egregious to spend eternity in.

14. aren't you afraid of hell?
See above

15. I feel sorry for you. Not having a reason to live
I feel sorry that you have to go through such a short life without even taking the time to appreciate being alive.

16. There are no atheists in foxholes
Has never been demonstrated as being true. Furthermore, I would be willing to bet that more people lost their faith in God during war than gained a faith in God

17. You have to believe in something
No! I think and therefore I am! I can choose to live my life based on evidence and not faith. I can constantly revise my opinions based on newer and more substantiated evidence.

18. Hitler, Pol Pot, and Stalin were atheists too.
Not 100% proven but even IF, so what? Only religion can drive people to sacrifice their sons, blow themselves up for virgins, etc etc.

19 What are you going to tell your children
I happen to be a Christian so I teach them Christianity. Although If I was of the faith of the Giant Lobster who lives behind Jupiter then I would probably have taught them that too.

20 I'll pray for you.
Thanks! It certainly can't hurt!. Although you could be praying to the wrong god which would me the real God doesn't listen to your prayers or if there isn't a god at all then it would do nothing.
So like I said thanks it certainly can't hurt!

21. You are doing the devils work
Doubtful! On many levels.

22. You are so closed minded.
And you just accused me of doing the devils work.

23. Stop being intolerant of my beliefs
Speechless!

24. God doesn't believe in atheists either
That may be the dumbest thing in the post.
If their is a god then of course he believes in atheists. If there isn't a god then who cares?
