One of the main tools used by despots such as Whitmer and Murphy is revocation of business licenses for failing to comply with executive orders.

One should not need permission from any level of government to run a restaurant/florist/salon/etc. it’s just another means of taxation and control by the state.

I'm ok with health inspections at restaurants.

Health inspections are fine, but why does a florist or restaurant or barber need a license?

I agree to a large extent, there are a few exceptions when it comes to healthcare workers. About 80% of license requirements should be looked at.

Easy one to get rid of first in Louisiana, inspection stickers....they are useless.

Agreed. All you have to do is publicly shame unsanitary places though, no need for gestapo.

Imagine the looming budget shortfalls the instant they talk about ditching the silly occupational licenses (barber, florist, etc.. let's keep the plumbers, electricians for now).

it's all about control and revenue....

It’s not absurd when your trying to track someone down to get your money back.

It absolutely is a money grab for most things. Alabama didn't require barbers to have a license until 2013.

It's all pretty much another mechanism to get you to behave they way they want you to behave.

You aren't the best person to know what is best for you. They are.

To collect $200.

When i was in construction I used to have to get business licenses all the time to build projects in certain cities and parishes. Some required you to get one for everything you built, even if you already had one in the parish.

Why do you need a license to hunt, fish, drive a boat, etc.?

Meanwhile in New Orleans
Sec. 154-1403. - Registration required.
No person who resides in the city shall ride or propel a bicycle upon any street unless such bicycle has been registered and a registration plate is attached thereto.

Because the government wants to rape you for every cent possible.

Licenses, permits, fees, penalties are all substitutes for the word tax.

Anything to separate an individual from the money in their wallet that rightfully belongs to the state.

Licenses are used to limit the number of people in a profession. I had a friend who tried to get a master plumbers license, but the test was so hard no one could pass it. Of course shop owners who didn’t actually perform the work had no trouble getting one. Sure licenses insure a degree of professionalism, but they also can be used to limit competition and protect the good old boys.

Correct. And there is another word... 'investments'. Instead of liberal politicians saying 'We need to raise taxes' they say 'We need to make investments in our children's future.'
