The Abdul situation

Abdul is a 3rd rate hack that pre internet would not get any attention or votes.
Fast forward to today MSM has him on everyday Fox News has him on continually . He gets massive airtime
He is a non serious 3 rd rate hack still…
The media outlets are competing to be relevant but as a result they boost the air time of a 3 rate hack that supports policies of neither party…….
It is a weird situation
Serious candidates get no air time ….

Yeah, but he’s Muslim and Minnesota loves their Muslims.
It’s surely strange to see.

People said the same thing about 45/47.

Nobody under the age of 50 watches the news. People under 50 are voting for that dude.
I don't think the media coverage is having an effect.

You do realize the irony of your thread, right?
He gets the airtime due to the constant meltdowns by MAGA types, which are what makes him exactly the type of content they will religiously rage watch (in order to get that dopamine hit from melting down).
People like you and content like this thread are what made him into the thing you're complaining about

No. I edit Fox News by turning off sound when stuff that doesn’t matter is continually reported on…..some Of Fox is now worthless and not watched at al. For example “ The Five “ is not on my menu
For online sources I pick and choose ….
The real story this election is “ what are the policies if the democrats? No reporting on this. Just videos of Abdul

The Dems are having their Tea Party moment with DSA and Abdul. Hopefully, we can get back to boring as Taibbi says.

For the last twenty years, politics was our most fascinating news story and the most interesting thing on the Internet. Now, one senses huge portions of the electorate would rather take baths in battery acid than listen to even one more word from a politician. Americans have by now been screwed over so many times that the problem may no longer be that the government doesn’t work. It’s that government doesn’t work, and we can’t shut up about it. Other countries manage to deliver lousy economies and naked corruption without so much talking. Can’t we just be Mexico or Paraguay and have peace and quiet while things mostly go to hell?
quote:
From 2016-2024 one could argue there were four big factions in American politics: old GOP, MAGA, traditional Dems, and Berniecrats. After next week it’ll be Whatever Republicans Are, Schumer Dems, and the DSA, which is really just the DSA and a dispirited Everyone Else. Shepard Fairey’s iconic CHANGE theme won the day in 2008, but who’s still dying for “change” in 2026? I know there are polls showing large pluralities of voters clamoring for “complete upheaval,” but I don’t buy it. Americans need a break, not more upheaval:
quote:
This is why pundits next week will surely miss the larger point of a brutal repudiation of Trump. For some voters, sure, it’ll signal hope that progressive Democrats can solve our economic problems. From others, withdrawal of support for this administration — effectively ending the Trump era — will send a different message. Republicans by the end of next week will have gone through the whole cycle that begins with disillusionment with party, is followed by populist takeover, and ends in disillusionment with the populist takeover.
Democrats are only halfway through the cycle. Unfortunately, there is a large group of people in their ranks that’s observed the last 25 years of disaster and still believes the solution is giving the state wider authority to screw things up.
Fixing America should never have been so hard. The bulk of progress could have been made in areas like not invading places, allowing failed companies to fail, not subsidizing employers who export jobs or commit financial crimes, and not funding dangerous experiments for reasons like “because we can.” Just not doing dumb things would leave us the richest, happiest country in the world by a wide margin. Additional effort in areas like “paying people a tiny bit more” would work wonders. Now we have to hold on tight through the remainder of a Trump presidency whose commitment to law is suspect at best, while Democrats flirt with a populist movement whose platform’s central plank is concentration of power/elimination of checks and balances.
If we survive that, we just might make it out of this hellish time, back to a world in which politics goes back to being boring, and movies go back to being interesting. Is it possible we’re almost there? Can we hope that a candidate with a platform of reduced grandiosity and hostility mixed with four or five manageable policy ideas rises in 2028? Shouldn’t that be within reach now? Who still needs “upheaval”?

Socialism never works, dang demlibs
I don't think....no, in fact I'm sure, you're not slamming the dunk you think you are. This guy should probably look into the concept of a "Co-op", been around forever. But what he's suggesting is NOT socialism in which the government owns the means of production (you know, the thugs with guns that take your stuff at gunpoint and give it to "their people"?) JFC we're never going to make it.

I’d rather pay tolls on Expressways in Oklahoma and we all pitch in on it so someone profits

Some might get bent out of shape but he’s taking his cues from Trump. His campaign is the mirror image of trump

These could benefit independent truckers, but I don't know how many are independent operators as opposed to working for a fleet. And unless they own their own fields they would be subject to the same market forces as everyone else.
But you make a very good point, not everything done collectively = socialism. If you belong to a Country Club, you collectively own a property that is maintained for the services it provides to its members (golf, tennis, pool restaurant, bar, etc.). And no one that is a member of a private club would be called a socialist.

We aren't going back. Things get worse.
Trump was never the problem or the disease. The corrupt unworking government is the disease. Bad government is the problem.
Trump was the attempted treatment.
When you have cancer and a treatment fails, you don't go back to normal. Your disease progresses.
Disease progression is what's coming.
Trump went through so much shite just to get on the ballot and away from prison to even have a chance to be re elected. Incredibly he won.
More incredibly, he pissed it all away over Iran. Mind numbing.

He will be the Senator from Michigan, I’d say this serious. GOP never stood a chance in this race.

Each has failed in spectacular fashion and only exist with the assistance of government.
You’re attempting to play word games when you don’t understand their meaning.

He is a far left Marxist that does not identify culturally as an American.
