Breast them out and wrap with a good center cut bacon, throw them bastards on the grill is what I'm thinking.

I’m not ashamed to admit I didn’t know what novel meant either when I read about the China virus about a month ago. But, no way in hell was I starting a thread on the PT asking what it meant. Damn OP Google is your friend.

For all of you fricking arse holes who get great sport at being snarky my point was totally missed. The media only recently began using the term novel to describe the coronavirus. As usual it has been done herd like which seemed to indicate they are applying their spin to take focus from what they believe is politically incorrect, such as calling it the Chinese flu.

It’s okay. It’s a common usage but not commonly understood. As others said, it simply means “new” or “has never existed in this form”

But the media has been using this since it was a Wuhan outbreak.

It wasn't missed. You made a snarky OP out of ignorance and got snarky replies.

I heard it used far more frequently back in January before they named it COVID-19.

Possibly so, it just seems the media has gone out of their way to call it novel. Even the media when questioning Trump or Governor Edwards use it. It just seems contrived as though they must use the term to maintain their bonafides with their peers.

The media has been frequently using the description novel caronavirus. What exactly does that mean? Is this an attempt to worship at the altar of political correctness?

It’s been called a novel coronavirus from the get-go, and it is a phrasing they always use for a new virus that has nothing to do with the media. The media is gay and overly concerned that we respect the virus’ pronouns, but calling it novel coronavirus has absolutely nothing to do with that.

Think of the word "novelty"

New and unusual/different.

It’s not THE novel Coronavirus. It’s A novel Coronavirus. There are lots of Coronaviruses.

The actual name is Covid-19.

No, it means "new".

There are many coronaviruses out there. This one is new or novel.

Well, I guess we learn something novel everyday. I thought “novel” was the MSM’s way of deflecting blame toward Nova Scotia and away from China.

I had a chemistry professor that I worked with in grad school who got so tired of "novel" being used in just about every publication that he started a personal policy to reject any submitted manuscript that used "novel" in the title without a review paper like introduction that could justify the use of the term.
