bullshite…it’s at a minimum trespassing. Let the squatter sue her if she gets kicked out on her arse. THATS a civil matter. The owner has a fricking deed and owns the property.

Interesting.
I was just thinking about turning a couple of badass German shepherds loose in my house.

It would be great if a couple of companies used their off duty time to camp ou around the yard.

Nobody would be doing this if there was a fair way to handle it. In this situation, the homeowner, the police, , and everyone else knows that the squatter is in the wrong. The squatter should be removed and forced to pay damages, if any, and if they can't pay, they should go to jail.
This should be resolved within a day or two not 6 months or more.
The current situation only encourages people to squat.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Hankkkkkkkkkk with his dumbass comment of the day.
Hank, often this takes 90 days to proceed under good circumstances, IE a fully staffed court system and average case load.
Mean time, the squatters are taking your stuff, your copper, your plumbing, and flushing absolutely anything down your toilet in retaliation for you "taking the high road". Past cases have seen a gallon of grease causing $15,000 of damage to the septic or sewage system.

Squatters are presenting fake deeds or rental agreements in many cases.
And yes it should be very easy to resolve this in a timely manner, but the system isn't set up to help the law abiding.

The system is set up to prevent homelessness, thus giving the squatter the benefit of the doubt so they are not forced onto the street. But we already have a zillion homeless and if we really cared that would be solved already. Five more per year (that are terrific thieves) are not going to change anything.

Former owner refused to leave for 14 months.
These are all over youtube. Craziness. I see why many people sour on our systems.

I don’t understand this logic. First of all, the person does not have a legal lease with the owner. Secondly, I assume the owner is specified in the tax records. Also, as this house has been showing and recently remodeled I assume this individual hasn’t been living there…sounds like they just presented a lease.
If I find somebody trespassing on my land and call the police….and the person says “he told me I could…here’s a note” do the cops then tell me it’s a civil matter? No they arrest/remove them and it gets sorted out in court. If I’m in the wrong I could be open to civil suit.
If I steal a car can I just tell the cops “no this is mine” and present fake registration do they let me go because it’s a civil matter? If I have a home invasion and the invaders show a lease to the cops do they just raise their hands and say “nope this is a civil matter”?
I get squatters rights where somebody has been actively occupying a property or eviction rights of a legal tenant….but this is bullshite.

I doubt many places have quicker processes than Mississippi...
3 day notice
Filing at court; if you're lucky, court date in 2 weeks, if you aren't lucky, court date in a month.
Judge gives the person usually one week to move out.
If they refuse and the constable has to come out for forced removal, that's at least another day, sometimes week if they're busy.
I've never had an eviction take less than a month, and I've had some that took almost two months. And that's with a smooth process.
In one instance, I was able to obtain an emergency eviction in 3 days because I got lucky and the tenant physically attacked me. That was really nice.

Man, frick you. Trespassing is a crime. To mealy mouth your way out of this shows what a piece of shite you are.

Stupid courts, lawyers and lazy police inaction. The squatter should be arrested immediately, charged with trespassing and grand theft of property with damages and locked up. That would stop this insanity.

I don’t understand this logic.
I don't understand why you don't understand. They create a false rental agreement which has to go through the courts.
Its a scam and it works. Many of these people spend years paying no rent.

I do not disagree, but it universally how such matters are handled. It is not unique to Georgia or to this LTC. The OP reads like it is some unique miscarriage of justice.
It is stupidity like that that leads to violence and murder. This is a case of grand theft, fraud and trespass. The criminal justice system should not sit around playing word games with their heads planted firmly up their arse.

Because as the home owner on record I should have the final say legally of what is and isn’t fraudulent. If the squatter proves otherwise in court then they can have their day.
If somebody showed up tomorrow at your house with a forged deed saying they own the property and start moving their shite in while you’re on vacation….even though your the owner on record….should they get equal rights to the property until it’s sorted out by the courts?
I understand that this may not be how it actually works….but stand by my initial statement that this is bullshite.
