Hours before the Texas Rangers were set to have Texas Gov. Greg Abbott throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the first home opener at the new Globe Life Field stadium, the governor announced he would no longer participate in any Major League Baseball events, including Monday's game.

The governor also said the state of Texas would not "not seek to host the All-Star game or any other MLB special events" and sent a letter to the Rangers explaining his decision

Georgia's law places new restrictions on voting by mail and greater legislative oversight of elections.

The 95-page bill includes things like:

Requiring an ID number, like a driver’s license, to apply for an absentee ballot

Cutting off absentee ballot applications 11 days before an election

Limiting the number of absentee ballot drop boxes

Allowing the state to take control of what it calls “underperforming” local election systems

Disallowing volunteers from giving away food and drink to voters waiting in lines

Opponents of the law say it will mostly impact urban counties with more Democrats and have referred to it as 'Jim Crow 2.0.'

Abbott himself is a proponent of such "election integrity" laws, with similar proposals being worked on in the Texas legislature that would limit how and when voters could cast their ballots, as well as other limitations around mail-in voting after the pandemic led to a surge in voters submitting their ballots in new ways to avoid in-person interaction.

Didn’t read the link, but it looks like we’re finally starting to see some pushback from some leadership.

Kudos to Abbott. Good job baw!

Meanwhile, Louisiana Republican legislators will only give platitudes and are effectively the Democrat party.

I’m worried it’s too late. I’ve said it before we need a third party.

Centrist Constitutionalists who can voice their support for personal responsibility, individual freedom, and an end to the welfare state that rewards apathy.

I'm taking Abbott over Fauci in my next celebrity Little League coach-pitch draft.

Obama said he was available and had a pair of mommy jeans to wear for the occasion. He did ask if he could get the mound moved about 30' closer since he can't really throw that far.

Yeah if there is going to be pushback, it needs to come from Texas and Florida. That gives cover to a lot of states that otherwise might have to bend to financial pressure.

Keep an eye on Valerie Hodges and Sharron Hewitt. They are crafting voting integrity legislation right now. The legislative session this year is already set and is mostly financial so we may or may not see voting issues brought up until next year.

He should have gone to the game, stood out on the pitcher's mound, grabbed a mic, and tell MLB to go frick themselves and drop the ball on the ground and walk away.

Adds more days for early voting
Allows food and water but not by people affiliated with campaigns.

What the press and Biden say and what is reality are on different planets.

Good for Abbott. I hope other governors decline it too.

He would have to have one hell of an arm to reach the plate from a seated position.

And can still get the ball across the plate, unlike Barry "I like peckers" Obama.
