I’m also a federal “essential” employee as an air traffic controller with the FAA, and I think this is the narrowest and laziest thinking imaginable. I’m supposed to be fine without getting paid for these weeks and months, but I’m also expected to continue my work in helping to run the busiest airspace in the world? I’m just shocked at the blanket prejudice that’s thrown towards federal employees here. We aren’t all parasites.

Join the club, buddy. This board has a very opinionated take on federal government employees based on the slimy politicians and their staffers that don't do anything positive while getting rich off taxpayer money, but they don't realize that those people aren't the ones getting the shaft in this situation and they always find a way to pay themselves and their slimiest counterparts.

It's not the top brass at the Pentagon or the woke dipshit aides in the White House, the top people at the FBI and CIA that are effected by a shutdown. It's not the overly lazy and sassy DMV and TSA employees or the corrupt politicians that are hit by a shutdown, it's the average people like the OP - who is simply an air traffic controller with a family and an average person like myself - that just happens to work for our US government because our careers fall under their purview.

It pisses me off to no end that in situations like these, the ones that TRULY need to take the punishment of a shutdown and lack of pay are the last ones to actually suffer. It's all the decent, average, middle class employees of the FedGov that get hit the hardest over the stupidity and childish stubbornness of those slimeballs in DC.

Your employer sucks at budgeting.

Blame your employer.

PS There are some in management demanding that we have individual spending bills so you would never be in funded. There are many that voted to fund foreign government employees while you go unpaid. I’d start your bitching there, if you live in LA, write both your senators.

Great! You can join every HOA for every road you want to use.

I don't join the HOA for every house I want to visit, HOAs exist now and when I go from my neighborhood to my sisters I don't pay to use her roads now, she already paid the fees for me to use her roads.

You are describing the fallout of your government being unwilling to spend within its means.

I agree you shouldn’t be ok with it. We need to force government to do what it is supposed to do.

Fyi, the people have been paying your salary for decades as government failed to do its duty. You should be thankful.

If I had to dig ditches for $10/hour or be a fed for $100k/year, I'd go get my shovel.

Fortunately, I get to help people AND make money without sucking hardworking taxpayers dry.

Reagan proved you weren't essential.

I have worked both public and private sectors. The unproductive nature in the public sector was/is appalling.

There should be no backpay for the Leeches when they return to work.
