how is the paper plant actually impacted by tariffs? Will they be sending the product back to China?
I’m in the pulp/paper industry so I was keeping up with this until the environmental delay. The original proposal was to build a softwood “pine” pulp mill to supply China with diaper fluff. So they would be taking advantage of Arkansas’s vast pine forests to ship softwood diaper fluff back to China.

LazyFatBastard just how did you come to think like you do?
There are quite a few posters that are mental midgets, both conservative and liberal, and are not worthy of rational and intelligent discussion.
He's one of them.
All they're good for is just flinging shite out of their own behind at you and then sniffing their fingers after and then yell melt, libtard or some inane variation.

Yes to all and I have very good, logical reasons for my positions that I have laid out.
You must have skipped school the day they passed out logic.
You have made a bunch of assumptions about things with little or no regard to facts.

OR the goods would be produced and sold in the US so there would be no issues
The US can only handle so much, plus the export market has always paid a premium for the same materials. Long term it might pay off and thumbs up if it does but short term I can see why people would nervous.

A state university and Baptist college have been the main economic drivers in the town of less than 11,000 people, which is still recovering from a devastating tornado that wiped out much of the downtown 20 years ago.
horseshite!!! It's been rebuilt. Still recovering? I've been going to and through there for forty years plus. It has been better since the tornado than I ever recall it being prior. Been better for YEARS. Especially after they quit being a dry county. Tornado got rid of some trashy arse buildings and houses.

Sun Paper said it remains committed to the Arkadelphia project, but said it would have moved much faster without the trade friction.
More bullshite. Other factors slowing it down, they're posturing for more free shite from the state, and probably slowly a tad to let the tariff issue be settled.

Do ya'll want to read about companies being hurt by the tariffs?? Ok Sure. Trump's Tariffs Force Last US TV Factory to Close
Dafuq does that have to do with Arkadelphia, Arkansas and Sun Paper? I'll have to follow that story and see how it plays out. I'll be those TV's get assembled elsewhere in the US and a deal has been cut.

quote:1. so the tariffs worked? i'm still unclear on what you're saying. you say they won't work but then you describe them as working.
Remember they are only going to start buying soybeans when other sources are out
2. how do you know?
quote:so you know this for a fact. as in, you can predict the future. wow. have you ever thought about laying some money down on horses or cfb? you could clean out the bookies
Our soybean growers are the last in line to sell them as there is still a tariff on US grown soybeans. Chinese soybean users are going to buy US beans if cheaper South American beans are available.

I work at a paper mill and was told by management that there would never be another paper mill built in the US because of government regulations. It simply would not be cost efficient to build one to meet current regulations.

Do you have links to any numbers showing our economy has declined since we started trading with China?

we are naive to think we can stop tariffs in other countries
