we pay the cost of tariffs.

I’m in the pulp/paper industry so I was keeping up with this until the environmental delay. The original proposal was to build a softwood “pine” pulp mill to supply China with diaper fluff. So they would be taking advantage of Arkansas’s vast pine forests to ship softwood diaper fluff back to China.
So, in that case, U.S, tariffs wouldn't be the problem.
The problem, would be import tariffs imposed by China?

I agree they are not concerned and the reality is that the Chinese tariffs were not the reason of the price decline and that a bean is a bean regardless of where it is grown.
US farmers should understand that the only way US beans will go to China is when the Brazilians have inventory is at a discount. They can, of course, go to other markets.

Explain that. Are you saying we get nothing for the money we send over there?? That would be a silly statement.

I work at a paper mill and was told by management that there would never be another paper mill built in the US because of government regulations. It simply would not be cost efficient to build one to meet current regulations.
Regulations change and I know a lot of people in the timber industry that would disagree with you. Trump has no problems deregulating some shite. And I may be wrong, but if the Arkadelphia mill is having issues it's environmental.

1. so the tariffs worked? i'm still unclear on what you're saying. you say they won't work but then you describe them as working.
2. how do you know?
Explain how they worked. So they are buying soybeans once the other supplies are gone. Why would they not? They would have bought a lot more soybeans from the US had they not put a tariff on them.[
quote]so you know this for a fact. as in, you can predict the future. wow. have you ever thought about laying some money down on horses or cfb? you could clean out the bookies[/quote]
Why would anybody pay more for a soybean than they had too?? If Brazil has beans for $6 and the US has them for $6 but a Chinese user will have to pay a $1 tariff on beans from the US which is he going to buy????
That is not hard to understand. Surely you can grasp something that simple.

quote:you just don't even see the inconsistency of what you're saying. you are complaining about trade war. trump creates temporary tariffs. ib gripes. trump helps out farmers during the ordeal. ib gripes. face it. trump can't win with you.
What is appropriate now is criticism of Trump for creating new additional farm welfare because of his trade war.
think about what you're saying.
1. let china tariff us goods
2. let china steal intellectual property
3. let china punish the us for propping up their economy with overdeveloping, mongolian labor, inflated yuan, military buildup, etc
4. don't retaliate
5. let us businesses suffer
what
the
frick

there is no logic to your posts. None.
You just rant. Do you have any facts to back up your assertion that tariffs are good?

One regulation I would love to see implemented would require any mill's discharge water line be placed directly upstream of it's intake water supply line.

They were unlikely to do this from the beginning.
As a side note, Nucor-Yamato Steel in Hickman Arkansas is doing a $230,000,000 expansion.
Big River Steel in Osceola Arkansas will be doing a $1.2BILLION dollar expansion.
These are as a result of tariffs. You win some, you let the commies do propaganda on some.

Jbird you contribute nothing.
Why shouldn't we remove all tariffs? Can you argue that at all?
You are the guy that says pointing out that people will not overpay for soybeans is stupid. How stupid is that.

They can feed their people without the USA. That they are starving is a myth
360 million people lived on less than $3.10 a day
in 2014, average household income is less than $6k
in 2016, China still had 43.35 million people under the poverty line of 2,300 yuan (about $334) in annual income
With so many loans taken out for poverty assistance, Chinese debt in 2000 to 2014 rose from $2.1 trillion to $28.2 trillion. This amount is projected to increase by around 300 percent of GDP by the year 2022.
Around 500 million people, or 40 percent of the population within China, survive on $5.50 per day or less.
yes, the progress they have made in the last few decades is impressive. however, it is no secret that their success is often labeled as unsustainable.
