I apologize for not reading the article, yeah those racist views are messed up. My comment was on society in general, particularly the normalization of deviancy.

Attributing the comments of a single actor from 1971 to the altitudes and conditions of the time writ large...and, then ignoring that things have changed IMMENSELY (for the better) is fricking lunacy.
