Some are getting out. It is infinitely harder for them, though, being that we have commandeered their airport, halted their flights, and are holding them at bay with rifles, and that US and other diplomats/civilians are likely first in line.

My wife's father is Vietnamese, served as a translator in his teenage years between US troops and his community, and was one of the last ones helicoptered out of Saigon when it fell. He's had an amazing life in the US and is grateful every day that he was able to leave. I'm naturally grateful, as well.
However, he knows better than anyone that thousands of people who helped our troops are likely to be executed soon. One can only hope they escape torture. The whole situation is just sickening.

That's mighty presumptuous of you. We still have billions in aide to pay the Taliban, and the remnants of the Afghan Army are also still on our payroll. We are about to be funding both sides of a civil war.

These are people that want to live free and helped in the hopes of having that.
People in the US are taking that for granted and we will have to fight for it again in our lifetimes.
