I think it’s less about board seats and more about the undue influence political people have on the promotion decisions after Lt. Col. from full bird up an officers career is in the hands of staffers and politicians not his superiors.

Unfortunately that tweet didn’t age well. I have 2 buddies that took part in the Operation of retired and former SpecOps guys that went in and started rescuing our people and allies from Afghanistan. It took the old timers that don’t have to follow orders to make what he said happen

But staffers and politicians tend to pick those officers who care more about their post-uniform political and lobbyist career than they do their Soldiers.
Milley and Austin are prime examples. Milley was probably one of Trump's biggest frickups in terms of military appointments.
