I've been thinking about something....
Let's, just for the sake of getting a better understanding, set aside the clusterfrick we are currently in the midst of.
We have a State Dept. working for an administration that has no idea how many American citizens are in the capital city of a country that is an active war zone. They don't even know where to start with a potential number, so they have no idea how many people are still in the city.
On a good day, one nowhere near as dark as this, that is inexcusable.

He's speaking of the Taliban to be fair, they don't necessarily attack foreign nations and do terror attacks. Al-Qaeda is a different animal, their name may have changed some but same group, obviously ISIS also.

It's amazing how they choose to only focus on the correct decision to" leave Afghanistan" while ignoring the reality that we are further away from leaving Afghanistan than we were before we "left" Afghanistan.
Not one part of this process has been successful to this point. It has to be a nightmare having to get up there and spew talking points that are plainly wrong.

The reality is that the Taliban and Al Qaeda will be forever linked. There have already been ground reports that there are plenty of foreign fighters alongside the Taliban. The Taliban themselves have said reinforcements are coming in from abroad. Al Qaeda were foreigners to the Afghan people. There are foreigners that have been fighting right alongside the Taliban as they rolled Afghanistan.

I should have been more clear, I was mostly speaking of the Taliban prior to 9/11. They did allow AQ to have harbor in Afghanistan but they were 2 completely different "groups" back then. I agree they've changed since we went into Afghanistan and have many more foreign fighters in their group. They said themselves us invading was going to make them stronger.

I bolded the key words there. Until now, all reports have specifically stated troops were being sent "to secure the Kabul airport". This is the first I have seen the "in Kabul" acknowledgement.

The Taliban is not that stupid. It will be far more effective to handcuff them, put them on television, and tell the US if you want your people, you're going to pay.
Humiliating us (again) on the world stage makes them much, much stronger. And richer.
