I don’t think anyone is arguing. But a halfway decent withdrawal doesn’t result in 10,000 American citizens and even more allies being left behind in control
Of the taliban.
Of the taliban.

We have yet to see video of all these people murdered in the street or Taliban going door to door like Bidens Vaccine Posse.
I saw both of those in videos yesterday. You aren’t paying attention

Tell her we look like complete pussies and the world will never look at us the same again - thanks to the way Biden handled the withdrawal l. And I’m not a Trump supporter.
She probably watched Rachel Maddow - sounds like it.

A narrative of door to door hit lists and public executions is exactly how you convince the American people we need 200k refugees, billions in aid, and to maintain military presence for another X number of years.
That's the last narrative Biden and his camp want right now. I can almost guarantee that. He's already lost the narrative of the withdrawal so the last thing they need is Americans being hunted by the Taliban.
But I do agree that we must be skeptical. The ol "trust, but verify" line. Although hearing of executions in the streets at the hands of the Taliban isn't all that far-fetched...

I think Trump would have gotten "assurances", then the Taliban would have violated them. Next Trump would air strike and kill key leaders. After that who the frick knows? Bloodier exit? Cleaner exit? All we can say is it would have been "different".

correct.
strategy vs execution.

I told her that. This was her reply:

You have been brainwashed by the Trump nuts and FOX.
quote:
We spent a trillion $$$ there and the people would not fight for themselves. Enough is enough. Would you want your son fighting for a country that sat back and refused to fight for themselves? You need to read the histories of the past 3 presidents and their actions. This was inevitable. Messy happens.

Your mom is the LeClerc poster?
Makes sense that poster is a woman...

That must be why CNN, MSNBC, ABC, and CBS are all calling this an unmitigated disaster.

Everyone agrees

No, which is why we shouldn’t have been in Afghanistan to nation build.

Don’t know what the history of GWB, Obama, and Trump have to do with any of this but those last two sentences are despicable and obviously manufactured talking points from the WH and their remaining press friends.
quote:

Just wow. Our media has so deluded and cheapened what a great speech is. I thought getting out was the right thing? Why is this temporary then?
quote:
Were you this passionate when Trump abandoned the Kurds?
There’s a poster or two in this thread trying this whataboutism. Where 10,000 American civilians abandoned with the Kurds? Did the people the Kurds were fighting take control over all of our and our allies’ assets and not let us leave?
Posted on 8/17/21 at 6:42 am to moontigr
quote:That simply isn’t true. Biden’s claim that he planned for this contingency is a lie, unless one believes that the scene at the airport with little security and bodies falling from a plane, was planned. Does a drawdown that doubles the number of troops you have to send to the area for the protection of Americans and its allies make any sense?
This was inevitable. Messy happens.
Your mom may have a point that you may, like others, be more interested in this event because it is a black eye to the administration, but the opinion that Biden completely bungled the withdraw putting innocence American and allied lives at risk is near universal.

When I told her she's been blinded by political tribalism, she replied, "I'm an independent!"

Nevermind, your mom isn't LeClec, she's OweO.

Yeah, are you sure she entirely grasps what that word means? Because an independent would not have called any speech Biden gave working the last 30 years great. Nor would an independent accept the current situation as inevitable.
I’m glad my parents aren’t very different than I politically, but my FIL is and I’m curious what his take on this will be. I guess it depends on how CNN crafts the talking points.

Don’t know but in my local news app the first story at all about this situation is 18 stories down

Bottom line: Afghanistan was a 20-year failure. As Biden said, we could not provide them with the will to fight for their future. Case closed. I don't want to argue with you. I try not to think about this because the 4 years with Trump nearly killed me. I have weaned myself away from the debates on social media.

File for divorce from your mom immediately. She is toxic and will probably come over in the middle of the night and kill your whole family.

You win the argument. She has no response for actual facts and questions
