The president had hoped to begin his two-week summer vacation this week but, at the same time, wanted to be in Washington to tout the Senate’s passage of his bipartisan infrastructure bill, a foundational piece of Biden’s agenda. As negotiations dragged on last week, Biden decamped for his Wilmington, Delaware, home for the weekend, with officials planning a Sunday night return to mark the bill’s passage.

I've seen reports of a German evac plane that had to circle for "five hours" before it finally got to land, but was only able to get "a handful of people" before being forced to take off again.

At first I would have said yes but as more and more information is coming out it is clear this group in charge is 100% totally incompetent and only gives a shite about maintaining what little power they have left. In fact they are not only incompetent but they are a danger to our country right now.

My only point is when Biden went to Camp David after the shite hit the fan doesn’t mean he was going on vacation. Presidents work at Camp David. Many Presidents prefer to conduct diplomacy at Camp David. Which may, or may not, be what he’s doing. We don’t know.

I think that’s a very valid criticism of Biden. He should’ve been on tv nightly updating US on the situation.

"Obviously we've got a base close by which is safe and secure in the and that's where we'll stage from. But we'll work with the Americans and others, including the Turks, etc, to make a very difficult, a tragic situation, as best as it can be."
The Pentagon has since said US forces have regained control of the airport [u]and of air traffic control.
Shadow foreign affairs minister Penny Wong said the people at Kabul should have been evacuated weeks or months ago.
"I have to say I fear it is too little, too late," Senator Wong said.
"We've seen calls from former prime ministers, calls from Labor, but importantly calls from veterans who have been warning we should urgently get people to safety, and now we're left waiting and hoping on a last-minute and high-risk operation."
