From April 12, 2009 to April 10, 2010, CDC estimated there were 60.8 million cases (range: 43.3-89.3 million),

To date we have just over 100k confirmed

Why the panic and difference in coverage? Weird.

Much fewer than 3% of the population have been tested. 3% of the population would be nearly 10 million people.

With 60.8 million cases a minimum of 20%

I was going on the high side with the numbers

I think the most tested state is NY with ~5500 out of every million residents tested

ETA that being said the head in my math was off by a factor of 10

We're probably less than .5% of the population tested

You realize basically every hospital in New Orleans is full and they are desperately setting up alternate sites with the national guard? This has not happened with other diseases, you idiots.

Link?

There are a little over 320 million or so in the U.S.

If 60 million people were confirmed positive for H1N1 at least 20% of the people had to be tested at some point

Holy shite why the frick do you need a link for that?

Estimated versus confirmed.
One year versus one month.
We need to be consistent when comparing.
Also I don’t remember hospitals in various areas getting overloaded. Were they like some are now?

Well it’s the ones that are sick that re getting tested, so not a random 3%.

And even if an objective 3%, extrapolated amount of cases would be 3.3M, no?

Uhh… H1N1 was only contagious at most one day before symptoms started with very low asymptomatic rates and infections typically lasted less than a week. You're overthinking it, dude

My mom contracted H1N1 back in 09 or 10 (likely from working at the hospital). She woke up sick one morning, got knocked on her arse for a week while never leaving the guest room, then was fine. No one else in the house got sick, no trips to the hospital to be on a ventilator for a few weeks
