Statins are only needed by those who genetically need it. It's useless for the majority and causes unnecessary side effects that can be minimalized with other medications. polypharmacy.

Cholesterol is also an important component of vascular repair...or so I heard.

The first thing everyone should do when they see a scientific study is look to see who is behind it, especially financially.

That information is often more valuable than what is in the study.

No. Like I said, I meant a low card diet, meaning you don't gamble that much.

I am a physician, albeit not primary care...

Remember the pillars of health (Peter Attia is big into these):
Strength training.
Endurance training.
Diet (honestly, just being mindful of overeating is a start, particularly regarding sugar and alcohol intake...with eliminating more processed foods the next step).
Sleep.

You can then start throwing in more nuanced pieces like HIIT among other things

But remember, that study was observational, which means we can find interesting pieces to grow on and study further. I have zero desire to be on any meds, and I am not on any (because other than sleep, I am good at following the pillars of health). And I am disgusted by big pharma and medical synergy.

But remember, it is tough to compare our typical American obese patient to a 100 year old Swede. It seems SOME folks want to conclude that it is the higher cholesterol that led to the longevity. Or that high cholesterol is indeed good for you. I highly doubt that is the case. To be specific, I doubt that there is a linear relationship between increasing cholesterol levels and increased longevity (meaning the higher the cholesterol does not equal increasing lifespan). Maybe the goal should be to be healthy and not on cholesterol meds and not conclude that high cholesterol is good.

high levels of total cholesterol

This is different than high cholesterol

High cholesterol implies high LDL (bad) cholesterol

High total cholesterol means that the total of your LDL and HDL numbers together. HDL is good cholesterol. Your LDL numbers can be elevated and be healthy if your HDL numbers are elevated as well. HDL removes LDL from your bloodstream. That’s why it’s ok to eat red meat often as long as it’s paired with vegetables, fruits and grains. And staying physically active.

Was it the first thing you did or not? Who is behind this one?

A lot of folks don't realize that our bodies can't survive without cholesterol.

Our bodies produce cholesterol naturally in the liver for many body functions.

The standard cholesterol panel is way outdated. It looks at total chl. We need to request advanced cholesterol testing.

What really needs to be checked is the size of chl. Mainly the size of LDLs.

Cholesterol needs to be light and fluffy like cotton balls. Not small and dense like a marble.

What happens if cholesterol particles are small and dense is that the burrow down into the arteries and build up plaque. These plagues cause small lesions in the arteries and will rupture, like a pimple cause blood clots.

Most of the time, enzymes in our bodies will break up these clots. However, over time, blood clots will build up in our heart arteries causing a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, strokes and eventually death.

Statins? Avoid them like the plague. Too many side effects.
Yes, they do reduce cholesterol, but at what price?

Our brains consist of about 25% cholesterol. What happens when statins are taken to the brain?

Possibly Alzheimer's? Dementia? IDK really know but more and more evidence is being discovered about the side effects of statins.

Statins are the numero uno prescribed 'medicine' worldwide.

Folks would rather take a little pill rather than eat a healthy diet and do some exercise.

Do you own research.

Too many in the medical field are way too quick to throw a pill at the issue rather than getting to the root of the problem which is usually a crappy diet and lack of physical activity.

Best thing to do is reduce radically sugar intake, avoid HFC at all costs, avoid the cappy industrialize starches, get rid of seed oils and use extra virgin olive oil. Avoid foods with MSGs.
Get some good exercise a few times a week.
Get good sleep every night.
Learn how to deal with stress.

So funny people want to argue with an observation instead of considering their perceptions and what theyve been told by the “medical” community may be incorrect.

Cholesterol probably isn’t bad… but inflammation sure as shite is.

High cholesterol from eggs, milk and meat: no problem

High cholesterol from synthetic industrial additives: you gonna die!

The devil is in the details. The headline is too simplistic. There are different types of cholesterol, and there are other factors at play.

Yep. For decades we were told that butter is bad for us and that we should use some substance called 'margarine'.

Now after years of research, we have found the opposite is true. Margarine full of 'seed' oils, trans fats and uses emulsifiers.

Here is a little experiment you can try.
Put out some butter on a plate and right beside the butter, put out some margarine.
Now see if flies land on the margarine or on the butter. You will be surprised at the outcome.

Throw out the margarine and use real butter. Go with good, high quality European butters. I personally like Danish Creamery unsalted butter.
There are other good brands out there so do your research.

At one time, doctors promoted cigarettes as 'healthy'.
