Suspending teacher's salaries

At the end of the current school year, why not? If private companies are laying off employees, suspending their pay while their job is shutdown or just flat out laying them off until they are needed again, then why can't the same be said for teachers whose pay comes from the taxpayers? Suspend those summer months paychecks and save our governments a shite ton of money since we are in dire straits economically presently. I'm sure there are many, if not all, state governments whose coffers are being drained because of this virus scenario. Well here's a solution to make it less drained.

They have the hardest job ever. You couldn’t even begin to do it. Only maybe a nurse could

Government is a better example.

Teachers?
Depending on some states, you may as well walk around punching toddlers in the face.

Lol.
They don’t get a ton of money. It’s not the hardest job ever.

So why suspend salaries if they are still making lesson plans grading papers and teaching?
You sound like a dumb one on this one
Plus I don’t want my salary suspended especially since I’m still seeing my students face to face for about hour of week.

I disagree with your premise but agree that they should be run like private schools. Locally the private schools have innovated and are providing a high level of education despite the circumstances. Public schools have done a terrible job bc they know they can complain and they’ll get paid anyway. Private schools have to work hard to maintain an attendance. That being said I think public schools should be held accountable to maintain their pay. If they don’t then they can’t get paid for nothing just like the rest of us.

Our school gave my children two weeks of busy work three weeks ago and I haven’t heard back reference new assignments. We tried to reach out to one of my daughter’s teachers for clarification on an assignment and she didn’t return the text or our voice mail. I don’t see where they are “working” any.

I see you didn't read the post or you would have seen the words "summer months" in there.

teachers work on annual contract; they are contracted to work 180 - 190 days a year and their pay is doled out over a 12 month period
so this is not an option
so this is not an option

I did read it. But again you sounded like a dumb one on this one.

I am not sure you know how their salaries work. Here in Florida the salary is paid over 12 months but it is for the school year, whatever that year is. Hurricanes for example can effect end times.
So the money they receive in the Summer is already Owed them, as they have completed the Contract.

If we stopped paying government employees, we’d be back to work in no time.

Disagree.
Tax dollars are already spent on this so it doesn’t matter. Would just be more people on unemployment.
Private companies don’t have revenue rolling in.
Stop being angry that you chose the private sector.

We get option 12 or 9 pay periods. My district being title 1 we weren’t paid last pay period so they could make sure the maintenance and cafe workers got bonuses some didn’t agree with it. We got an email telling us why we were not issued pay yesterday.

From what I understand most teachers are considered 9 month employees on their contracts and have that 9 months worth of salary divided into 12 months of paychecks, so the only way to suspend those summer months would be to tack on those other 2-3 months of paychecks onto April and May’s checks.
