Surely you'd want to break Canada up instead of adding it as one huge state?

Canada has a population of 40 million, it's roughly the size of California population. It would instantly become the biggest state in the union (both population and geographically)

You'd surely want to carve it up into a few smaller chunks and add those right? Not too many but maybe 2-3.

One state is fine. What is their GDP like $2 billion?

Canadian?

I should expect nothing more from this board, but this level of intelligence is staggering.

I don't think we would want to add them as states at all. Let them be a commonwealth or something.

New York State's GDP of $2.15 trillion is comparable to neighbouring Canada’s economy, which is valued at $2.14 trillion.

new york is 3rd largest GDP by state....

texas and Cali are higher

I was thinking more in terms of impact to the Electoral College, House and Senate.

If you make 1 big state like that and it turns blue you pretty much kiss the electoral college goodbye forever.

You'd be much smarter carving out several reliably conservative states which would help you in the Senate as well.

Of course the idea of just making them a non-state territory like Puerto Rico is probably the easiest thing to do.

And Canada would want to break the USA up rather than add it as one huge Province. Now, why are we discussing this nonsense?

I would want Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. B.C., Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia can get bent. Northwest YuManiSkatcheBerta would be a single state.

Make them a state but don't let them vote until they've proven themselves a bit.

Remember that as a state, they would be able to vote in POTUS elections.

Canada as a whole has about 2 million more people than California. Would you want a state that elected Trudeau 3 times to have more electoral college sway than California?

I dont want Canada as a state. They are Left leaning and will tip the balance of power in the US. Not just in terms of Senate, but House seats. 40 million people? Whats that worth in delegates? Allow the Canadians to dictate our laws? Hell no.

I’m sure they have zero interest in being a US state either lmao
I mean, if they were smart they would join US and then start using their political power to dictate policy. They would become a superpower overnight. Its truly a stupid idea from Trump unless he is using the idea to push forward trade deals and the like.... but to actually acquire Canada as a state is stupidity

Can we just take the good parts of Canada like Moncton, Halifax, Regina, and Sunnyvale?

Using the raw math (US pop / electoral count) and extending our current system, Canada would get 62 electoral votes. We would go from 538 to 600. This past election would have been Kamala 226+62=288 and Trump 312, which is way too close. That's one state from turning the outcome. If MI, OH, AZ, or NC go blue, that could be enough. Biden is the worst president in our history, and if we were to bring in Canada, we would be one swing state away from re-electing him and the Democrats. The margin in this election was way too close, all things considered.

The House would never again be out of Dem control. Of the ~60 House sets, I bet 40 or more would go Dem. It would get monumentally more difficult to win the WH if you weren't a Dem and the Senate would have more Dem influence. Canada's senators would undoubtedly come from it's big metro areas and be left as hell.

Anyone wanting this, including Trump, is a moron. Worse than a moron.
