Any drop in viewership certainly wasn’t because of the population of this board . It seems everyone here watched and many got offended for some stupid reason or another judging by all bitchfest threads started Sunday night during the game

Fake news.

The drop this year was 7,900,000 viewers. They lost more viewers from 1980 to 1981.

The drop this year was 7%. The Super Bowl has seen a drop of 7% or more 5 times in its history, most recently between 1998 and 1999.

Even the drop from the all time high in 2015 (114MM viewers to 103MM) pales in comparison to the drop from 1986 to 1990, when the Super Bowl lost 20% of their viewers - 18MM people tuned out over that stretch.

The drop does not affect NBC financially in the short term as the advertisers who spent an average of $5 million for a 30-second commercial are not guaranteed a minimum audience. However, it could be detrimental to CBS when it sells ads for next year's game.

I went to my normal Sunday devotion, ate lunch with my family under the oaks, met a cousin I never knew I had with her husband, invited them back, had three four hours of fun with them, spent time with all three of my children, stayed up talking until I looked up and remembered the Super Bowl was on. I turned it on exactly when Philly kicked a fg at the end-I think around the 2:00 mark. I hear it was a great game. Don't care though-I've cut the cord emotionally to the point that I forget it's on. They will make hundreds of millions and carry on just fine without me. I'm out.

lol these idiots don’t understand anything about business. They don’t understand that the NFL was more than likely guaranteed record revenue due to contracts already in place. Wonder if they will maintain their huge TV contracts with viewership, attendance, and likely merchandise sales down when its time to negotiate new deals.

If you count Internet views it was the most watched Super Bowl of all time

uh, no

That number included was 106M, so you still have a drop of 5M and that's just TV viewers from last year. You add internet to last years TV numbers and you get to 114M

Someone should let FOX know after what they just paid for Thursday Night Football

quote:

CBS paid $37.5 million per game for eight games during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. For the past two seasons, NBC joined CBS to broadcast five games each at a cost of $45 million. The new deal values each game at an average of more than $60 million.

Four people get agitated enough about what I watch on tv to down vote? Damn. I feel like I let them down.

My math is a little rusty, but a drop from 14 M to 103 Million is over 9% and close to a 10% drop, NOT 7%.

Articles like this only tell part of the story.
The NFL draws the most viewers of any programming on TV. What this means is that if less people are watching the NFL, less people are watching all programming.

This is 100% on Trump creating a major wedge on what WAS a minor, dying out issue, on blacks protesting a lot of police shootings of black men until Trump made it an issue on patriotism and supporting our troops. This was NOT the origin of the protest. Personally, I don't give a shite, but we need to (for better or worse) understand the damage that The Don is having on all elements of society with his leadership by chaos and lying strategy.

Indeed. Record numbers.

I'm sure they're very concerned.
