Study Reveals Just 37% of American Pastors Hold a Biblical Worldview

A new study from the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University (ACU), guided by popular pollster George Barna, has found that just 37% of Christian pastors in the United States have a Biblical worldview.
“This is another strong piece of evidence that the culture is influencing the American church more than Christian churches are influencing the culture,” Barna said.
In fact, data suggests that Syncretism, defined as the “blending of ideas and applications from a variety of holistic worldviews into a unique but inconsistent combination that represents their personal preferences,” is the predominant worldview among pastors, with 62% subscribing to this hybrid philosophy.
The survey looked at eight different categories of belief and behavior, including family and the value of life; God, creation and history; personal faith practices; and sin, salvation and one’s relationship with God. Surprisingly, the survey found that the category with the lowest percentage of pastors holding a Biblical worldview is the one related to beliefs and behaviors about the Bible, truth and morality.
ACU President Len Munsil called the findings “stunning” but believes the opportunity to guide and shape young people’s worldview still exists.
According to Barna, a person’s worldview is primarily developed before the age of 13 and goes through a period of refinement during his or her teens and 20s.
That’s why ACU strategically exposes its students to a Biblical worldview through its academic curriculum, spiritual formation programs and co-curricular activities, Munsil said.
While Barna also found the results “shocking,” he sees a silver lining.
“You cannot fix something unless you know it’s broken,” he said. “Other recent research we have conducted suggests most pastors believe that they are theologically in tune with the Bible. Perhaps these findings will cause many of them to take a careful look at how well their beliefs and behavior conform to Biblical principles and commands.
“It certainly seems that if America is going to experience a spiritual revival, that awakening is needed just as desperately in our pulpits as in the pews,” Barna concluded.

Trying to adapt to stay relevant, which is super ironic.

Revelation 22:18-19
18 I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, 19 and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

The Church has evolved to control men as long as the Church has been in existence.

Church has evolved to be this happy fun time Third Day aka Turd Day concert with a bunch of singing and a guitarist playing the same 3 chords over and over again with lyrics that all sound the same and a pastor who says a bunch of nothing for 30 minutes. And people are flocking to it.
I haven't enjoyed a church service in a decade and I'm not afraid to say it.

Surprised it is that high. So many pricks just want the easy money, power and kick of talking to a bunch of people in a semi-captive audience.

A pastor that adapts to the world is not a pastor. If you are reluctant to call sin sin, then you are leading your flock astray and the Lord holds that person doubly responsible.
Ignorance of the truth does not make you righteous. You are still accountable and should be able be able to discern truth from lies. It's on you to listen to whoever is teaching you and look for that forked tongue. If they start talking about how we can accept some of the things going on in society, stand up and run out of that place.
It's not a church and they v aren't a pastor. That person is wicked beyond belief and damning that congregation on purpose.

Unless they proclaim and preach 100% of the unmitigated Word of God, which is the Holy Bible, they are false prophets.
Jesus Christ is the Church.
Jesus Christ is the Church.

This is what happens when uneducated "street preachers" open up a storefront "church" and start preaching from some truly bizarre (and non-historical) exegesis. This also underscores the problems that arise when everybody has a different definition of just what "Biblical worldview" even means.

America is secular now and religion is rapidly fading in the homes of Americans.

This is why I no longer attend church. It is not required to be a Christian.
Read and understand His word. Pray. Try to better yourself each day and improve on your faults

This survey is sad, but not shocking.

The White Horse Inn podcast/radio show has been focused on this and doing street polls and such for decades now. It doesn't surprise me one bit.

I’ve been listening to Joel Osteen sermons as kind of a study to understand the appeal etc
All he does is espouse self-help cliches over and over under the guise of scriptural narratives
But his eyes, demeanor, and message are so vapid and empty
It’s kind of freaky if you really study his movements and mannerisms

Not the same. Not every town will have a church of Smyrna as described in Revelation.
Why go to a church that is lukewarm in it's faith, spiritually dead, might follow false prophets, or would compromise on its beliefs? Christian communities today tend to get caught up in the snares that can lure us away from our faith. Not saying all churches are bad but the book of revelations describes 7 types of churches and only 1 was faithful. You could do worse than have fellowship with your family in your home.

Even his tempo is eerie. It sounds like an attempt to get you into a trance.
Besides the Lord never promised prosperity on earth. He promised salvation of spirit. Joel will lead many folks to lose hope and ultimately faith.
