Oh. So because it's prescribed, it's not bad for you? Hm. News to me.

That's a strawman. One is being legalized, the other requires you to seek medical attention and be under a doctor's care.

Well..Idk about you but ya ever listen to the side effects of many prescription drugs?

Again.. was is under the care of a doctor and not being talked about in terms of rec use.

And all of these are absolutely HORRIBLE for you.

And I can't go to my local store and just buy them for recreational use.

Hmm. Are you saying cough syrup can't kill you? Go chug a bottle of rx cough syrup. I'll smoke an Oz of weed. Let's see who ends up in the hospital.

I'm not drinking a bottle of rx cough syrup. I follow my prescription instructions that is based on the known amounts within the bottle that is standardized. Pot ranges, in rec use.... not prescribed under the care of a doctor.

Not mood altering? Really? Hm. So if I'm hungry and I eat mcdonalds, my mood doesn't improve?

No...

Also. Fast food and processed food lead to heart disease and several other horrible health ailments.

I can see we are dropping into silliness.

Won't you think of the children?

I'm for banning caffeine powder. You are barking up the wrong tree.

As for caffeine in drinks like coffee, you are mistaken that it's bad for you.

Caffeinated coffee cuts mouth and throat cancer risk by 50%. Coffee can reduce the risk of stroke as much as 22%. Shown to reduce the risk of several types of cancer.

In Japan, researchers have shown that caffeine increases memory. Also, a newer study out of Johns Hopkins University showed that a 200mg caffeine pill helped boost memory consolidation.

Caffeine mixed with carbs replenishes muscle glycogen concentrations faster after exercise.

Caffeine detoxes the liver and cleanses the colon when taken as a caffeine enema.

Caffeine can stimulate hair growth on balding men and women.

Caffeine relieves post-workout muscle pain by up to 48%

Research shows that those who consume coffee are at less risk of developing Parkison’s disease and it even reduces the risk of those genetically more likely to develop the condition.

Caffeine helps ward off Alzheimer’s.

Caffeine through coffee protects against eyelid spasm.

A new study out of Rutgers University found that caffeine prevented skin cancer in hairless mice. Another study showed that caffeinated coffee drinkers have less risk of developing melanoma.

People who consume caffeine have a lower risk of suicide. That's just the opposite of the current studies on MJ

Caffeine may reduce fatty liver in those with non-alcohol related fatty liver disease. This study comes out of Duke University.

Caffeine is shown to reduce liver fibrosis risk in patients with hepatitis C.

Caffeine consuming men showed increased semen volume and significantly less sperm DNA fragmentation than non-caffeine consuming men. The opposite is true for MJ

Men who consume 250-375mg of caffeine per day have a much lower risk of developing ED (erectile dysfunction). Reduced risk was even observed among men consuming as little as 85mg of caffeine daily. This research was conducted by The University of Texas Medical School.

Caffeine Reduces Kidney Stone Risk. In a large 217,883 person study, those that consumed caffeine from any source had less kidney stone formation than those that did not consume caffeine. The researchers believe that this is because caffeine makes urine more dilute.

Caffeine helps those with asthma. A study published in the U.S. National Library of Medicine concluded that caffeine seems to open airways and help asthmatics breathe easier similarly to theophylline a drug currently used and one that’s a close cousin to caffeine.

A recent study conducted by the Australian Department of Defence found that caffeine consumption improves driving performance and reduces driver error. Caffeinated gum was used in the study on soldiers that had been sleep-deprived for 50 hours. Not with MJ.. it's the opposite.

Research out of Germany showed that weight loss study participants who drank 2-4 cups of caffeinated coffee a day were more likely to be successful at keeping the weight off than those who did not consume caffeine.

Researchers from Stanford University found that caffeine blocks the expression of a gene responsible for low-grade chronic inflammation as we age. This inflammation eventually leads to high blood pressure, hardening of the arteries, and heart disease. Caffeine seems to help reduce this age-related inflammation in those that are regular consumers of the drug.

Not at 80% THC. You would be a dead man at 150 lbs

All those discussions are stupid:

-I'm not a teen
-I don't want to drive stoned
-I have a job and don't need your help to pay bills or medical insurance
-I have no desire to get close to so stoned I might "die" if that's even possible

Now explain why it's illegal for me to consume a plant I could grow on my back porch?

Common Knowledge: Alcohol and Nicotine Linked to Adverse Persistent Health Impacts

I mean maybe the issue is more that teenagers still have a developing body and psychology and would be better off avoiding most or all mind-affecting substances.

Where are the studies showing these effects in adults?

Not the point of the study, but there are instances where people have killed or killed themselves as a result of marijuana usage. Richard Kirk is an example.

He's an example of a criminal who refuses to take responsibility for his actions.

Sure, that's why in the 911 call his wife is reporting him hallucinating, acting in a bizarre manner as he had never done. That's why in the police car the video shows him high and psychotic rambling about end times and some undiscernable jibberish.
But I'm sure the responses will try to exonerate the marijuana. It's a miracle drug, right? This is off topic though. The study in the op was the point of the thread.

There damn sure are a lot of drug and alcohol apologist in this thread and on this board. Fascinating what drives people in general to separate themselves from either their daily lives or the reality of what or who they have become via drugs / alcohol.

The effect of prior regular marijuana use on subsequent subclinical psychotic symptoms persisted even after the teens stopped using marijuana for a year.

You're questioning the narrative? Come on, weed is not a gateway drug either. It was for me but I'm sure I was atypical.

There are others. Paranoia is a well documented side effect of marijuana. Paranoid people do violent acts.

Why are so many on this board unwilling to admit that marijuana has a downside? BTW, I'm fine with it being legalized.

I do not have clinical data but clinical experience has convinced me that some people react horribly to THC. I'm not talking about primo, dusted or wet.

There is a subgroup out there who become psychotic even when using marijuana for the first time. Perhaps these folks lack something to metabolize the THC.

I am very sorry about your brother.

No symptoms like those that night were part of his history. Why is it difficult for you to see marijuana as a mixed bag?

It does make some people more paranoid than they normally are, makes some people more bold/brave than they normally are. Sometimes these things have a negative impact, other times they can have a positive one. All things have a downside, but that doesn't mean they should be illegal for everyone in all situations.

It isn't, see my other reply. Why is it difficult for you to understand that he killed people, maybe being high confributed to that but it wasn't the only reason. Why is it hard for you to understand that what led him to kill is more than just a result of Mariana usage?

Because that's totally the point.

Look, I'm a non-user who is for legalization - generally - but I want folks to do so with eyes open.

Occasional users who are not self-medicating for some mental condition are probably going to be okay. The folks who try to pretend it's a miracle drug with no downside - they're in for a rude awakening. A significant portion of users develop a taste for it and want to do nothing else. That goes against all the folks who say it isn't addictive.

Maybe not, but it is habit forming like a motherfricker in some folks. And for those heavy users there are lots of negative consequences, period.
