Winning one of these tournaments generally refers to winning one’s flight …. the flight one is selected to play within. I’ve belonged to four different clubs in four different states over the course of my corp career … mostly for client golf …. and nearly all of them conduct their club tournaments in the same general manner … for men, women, juniors everybody.
To keep it short, the club pro determines the various flights according to posted handicaps and known abilities. You play matches against the other players within your specific flight.
the Overall club champion generally emerges from the top flight based on head to head scoring.
Whether it is individual, member-member, or member-guest …. they basically all run this way. (And may be accompanied by a Calcutta … those are a lot of fun)
No, Trump is far from the best golfer at his club, which is understandable given his age. But he could easily be the best in his flight.
Not to mention, … can you imagine standing over a 10 foot birdey putt to ice the match against a sitting POTUS ? Talk about nervous….
