If nothing else it's going to be invalidated by the effect of the annexations.

The Baton Rouge will challenge the validity of the signatures, which will probably do nothing but delay the vote if the organizers have a decent cushion.

I'd prepare yourself. The vote may not happen in December, but it will happen.

Being union boss is a long term deal? Nothing wrong with that, I guess.

Many of the people in favor of St. George don't exactly strike me as those who care for unions and their thug bosses.

Yet, they apparently are.

As I've stated previously I have no dog in this hunt but I truly believe people should have the right to self determine how they wish to live. Politicians who attempt to thwart this self determinism should be horse whipped IMHO.

Explain how a lawsuit will "block" it

1. Challenging the signatures: temporary blockage as you just have to get more signatures.
2. Boundary challenge: might send the effort back to the drawing board, but this challenge is unlikely to be successful. Even if successful, at best it is a delaying tactic.
3. Federal disparate impact challenge: This is, imho, the one you should fear most.

So in theory a city could annex a piece of property every time a petition is started to form a new city and redefine the boundaries and invalidate any petition drive, right?

Sure, why not?

Yep. Seems any time a writer for a media outlet or blog does an article about the St. George efforts, racial make-up is always thrown in.

Because that's intentionally trying to circumvent and screw the Constitutionally allowed petition process.

This is great news for the people of St. George.

I think the vote passes pretty easy assuming it makes it to the ballot.

Supposed to only deal with housing per se, but the Feds have made things up as they go before

I'll vote for it simply because of John Delgado.

I've got no dog in this fight. I believe the residents of St. George definitely have a legit gripe that the current public school system they are trapped in is a bag of dog shite. At the same times, organizers like Rainey...sheesh.

All that said, John Delgado with his utter arrogance and "look at me" shtick has done quite a bit to help St. George supporters.

To be honest, if it weren't for John Delgado and LSURussian, I probably wouldn't even be remotely for St. George. However, they've been such a-holes about the whole thing that I want it to happen just to spite them.

Now Delgado is talking about putting this so-called "Fairness Ordinance" up to a vote of the people. I hope this goes down in flames just to spite the sponsor.

This st George thing is going to make La look so bad if the media ever gets ahold of it.

Imagine what Jon Stewert will do

I agree with you that the city will do everything they can to stop SG,but nothing they can do will "block" the vote.

Umm yeah, I mean, incorporation is so bad....and stuff.....

Seriously, the worst they can do is call us racist and they've already done that

Let's flip the coin though. How will it look when the mayor president leads a lawsuit against his own constituency for following a legally established process?
