Just in time to have it blocked by a law suit.

Explain how a lawsuit will "block" it.

They'd be foolish not to get a big cushion. I wouldn't have released the numbers. I would keep it quiet and maintain a sense of urgency until I had another thousand or so signatures.
They are said to be checking addresses, but some people have probably died, movies away, etc.

Facebook friend is heavily involved in the effort and they are trying to build a good cushion.

They want more signatures to be safe. I haven't signed it yet so that's one.

Expect a lawsuit to challenge the validity of a lot of the signatures.
Not sure how though. Before I was allowed to sign I was validated to be eligible to sign by some app the volunteer had in their phone.

The lawsuit will just delay the inevitable.

No doubt there will be a lawsuit....kipster has already put M.O.P. up to it. It won't "block" it though.

Please explain the timing to me as described in your link.
The registrar of voters says she needs the signatures by the first of September to validate the signatures for the December election.
Rainey says they hope to turn the petition in by the first of October.
Is Rainey trying to miss the December election?

We'll see. I want it to go up for a vote just to get it over with. A law suit or injunction just enables the good ol boys in charge of SG to play the victim card.

Really wish they would just vote on this so everyone can move on with their lives.

Same here. No need to drag this out further. Let the vote take place if the signatures are valid.

We can't control what the registrar does, or how long they drag their feet. They will be turned in at an appropriate time. The official deadline for the December election is October 21. What happens after that isn't up to us.

Playing the victim already. Thanks for pointing it out.

Is October 21 the deadline or does the registrar get to pick an arbitrary date?
Why the rush for the December vote?

I'd rather be on a spring election, no victim here. Nice try though.

So Sprocket,
You're currently a boss of a government employees union in the St George area.
Be honest. Will you get a promotion with the new government? Or will you suddenly become a real estate mogul in SG like the rest of them?

Officially, October 21 is the deadline. The registrar says they need longer than that to verify. So legally if they are turned in by October 21 is that good enough? That's above my non-pay grade.

Isn't that the date the Sec of State needs to know if the initiative needs to be included on the December ballot? It does not provide for the time required for the signature validation process by the registrar of voters.
So your "October 21 is the official deadline" statement is misleading at best and bullshite at worst.
