Professor Hawking said US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement, has doomed Earth to one day become uninhabitable.

The University of Cambridge alumni said: "Next time you meet a climate change denier, tell them to take a trip to Venus. "I will pay the fare." When Mr Trump pulled the US out of the Paris Climate Agreement last year, Prof Hawking said: "We are close to the tipping point where global warming becomes irreversible.
I just have a couple of questions about his comments. If Venus is 25 million miles closer to the sun than earth wouldn't it make sense the planet would be hotter than earth?
Secondly, Venus's issue was not man made but naturally occurring. If in fact greenhouse gases are going to make earth boil why will taxing anything help solve the problem?

For as smart as Hawking is, he isn't right very often if ever. Maybe he'll get lucky someday.

For s smart guy, he says some pretty stupid stuff

He's right but it's long time away until our sun becomes a red giant.

The earth will boil if the US doesn't fork over hundreds of billions to legitimize a bullshite measure that will accomplish nothing.
Climate science is completely tainted by politics.

I'll be dead, so I am cool with this!

Fork it over, ya old nerd.

Somebody needs to the change the battery in his little talky thing, he's talking non-sense.

We have a chance to make it 68 and sunny if we only pay enormous taxes to our precious government officials or better yet to foreign governments.

Then explain why Venus is hotter than mercury. It’s because of its runaway greenhouse effect.

He’s pointing out the inherent stupidity of denialists, not necessarily saying we are going to boil.
Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system, despite being further out from the sun than Mercury. That is because it has an enormous greenhouse gas effect that traps more of the sun’s radiation and heats the planet. The more greenhouse gasses a planet’s atmosphere collect, all other things remaining equal, the warmer the planet’s surface temperature is going to get.
Why does this matter? Do greenhouse gasses have magical properties that change when man releases them into an atmosphere?

I miss those people. Especially the Venusian women God they were beautiful. But they didn't have a Inconvenient Truth to save them. Tsk.

Progs cheer
Let someone say:
"Next time a black person complains about his "plight" here, tell them to go to Africa. I'll pay the fare."
Progs call for that dude to be fired and pilloried.
Hypocrisy is not just a river in IndoChina

What specific remedial measures taken now will be the difference between the earth boiling or not?
Posted on 1/10/18 at 9:05 am to Oddibe
So what caused the climate change on Venus????

quote:Because the only solution I have heard proposed is to tax those who are responsible for creating additional greenhouse gases. The tax will not fix the problem, so is it really about stopping greenhouse gases or redistribution of wealth?
Why does this matter? Do greenhouse gasses have magical properties that change when man releases them into an atmosphere?

He's a theoretical genius. Not an actual one.
fwiw I think Hawking is the cats arse. but he is weighting in on politics and it doesn't suit him. He know damn well that the earth will shake humans off like a bad case of fleas long before we get to the point of destroying the planet. The planet was once a ball of molten rock and iron then a few million years later it was a ball of ice 25 miles think. These things work themselves out.
environmentalist don't care about the planet, they care about themselves and a nice comfy place for their kids. The planet will be arrite. It's going to do what it does.
