We had my daughter's DNA tested to see if they were identical. One was having lots of issues and DNA testing was an easy test to run to eliminate a lot of issues.

They are identical I was glad to know they are identical. I think they are glad they know they are too.

While I was doing IT stuff for a company back in college, I installed a fingerprint time clock machine. One crazy arse dude refused to use it because he thought his fingerprint was going to be sent to the government. This device was in no way hooked up to the internet. Uhhh, the government has your fingerprints already if you grew up in Florida.

What do people have to hide anyway? That was mind opening of what people think.

We will never know 100% if ancestry.com is breaking the user agreement by providing your DNA to the government, but I highly doubt it. I don’t live in that kind of fear. No reason to.

Hell I don't know about any of it, I don't have the uncontested answers here. But I do have a related question: Knowing that the government does indeed have the capabilities to blatantly and rather easily abuse your privacy rights and Constitutional protections; and knowing they could easily do these things basically whenever they want, more often than not without any recourse against them because they'd deny it and typically win that dispute......are you of the belief that they simply refrain from committing those types of abuses out of a sense of integrity or principles or morals, virtues etc??

Not sure what that has to do with anything. If they can do that, then why even bother living?

Well, I'm responding to the content within your post. From the post I caught the vibe that you're quite skeptical the government is more than willing to abuse their powers and capabilities......even though they likely can easily do so and get away with it the majority of the time.

In other words, I'm curious as to whether you trust that widespread govt abuses like such aren't happening.

And I don't think life would necessarily not be worth living if it were so, but it certainly would change one's outlook on big picture things.

I'm 100% positive if anyone has given blood or had blood work done at a local hospital or doctor's office then the government already knows any and everything about them.

31% -Scotch
21% -Irish
20%- French

Rest is German/NW Europe.

The wife was adopted, she did ancestry at 50 and learned she was 50% Hungarian and 50% Lithuanian. We were shocked.

What is you have a genetic trait that makes you more likely to get sick or a predisposition for certain diseases. Do you want yourself or your children being passed over for jobs.

Far fetched? Nope it has already happened.

You can safely ignore your grandmother's tales about a Cherokee princess marrying into the family. 97% of Whites have no discernable Injun blood in them.

But it does happen

The original story was that a Cherokee captured 5 sisters, killing 2, 2 were freed, 1 was given to the chief as a wife. My dad did the DNA thing and he is 1/32 Cherokee. The family really did intermarry with Cherokee.

I'm sure that's not an uncommon view of it. But I think there's two different categories of things to be concerned about here: (1) if you're a criminal, as you mentioned; (2) the knowledge that your Constitutional rights are flagrantly being violated.

#1 needs no further discussion. But #2....I just can't imagine that knowledge sitting well with folks. As it shouldn't, of course.

They are being violated every single day, as I mentioned if you've given blood or if you've had blood work done then the government probably has what they need on you. That is without your consent as well....

I'm with ya. Whereas I used to be quite skeptical, I now am rather convinced of a pile of unsettling things.
