Yes, the teaching of tithing is quite common in evangelical churches. More so amongst the prosperity gospel crowd.
The concept hinges on a matter which is disputed: is tithing required for Christians as it was for Jews? There are whole books on this subject.

There were actually three separate tithes in the Old Testament, two collected annually and one every three years. (Some theologians believe there may have been four.)
So you were looking at 23 1/3% or 33 1/3% depending on the interpretation. Then again they had a consolidated government and religion.

I’m not religious, but the structure, moral code, direction, and faith to lean on when things are hard are all positive things. People are using drugs and alcohol now. Mental illness is an all time high and getting worse. We have directionless kids and moral degenerates everywhere. Nice job
